My ideal clients are couples and individuals who are tired of suffering and want to make positive changes in their lives. My clients don't lay on the couch and vent, but rather are willing to roll their sleeves up and work hard to feel better and change. If you have trauma, we will get to the root of it. No more avoidance. If you're in a relationship with poor communication, broken trust and little intimacy we will fix it. We will equalize the power between you both, and draw healthy boundaries individually, and as a couple.

Axel Hettinger (he/him) specializes in client-focused therapeutic techniques. His work incorporates the arts and any special interests clients may have. Axel is a queer therapist who strives to create a welcoming, affirming and warm environment for all clients, and specifically works with LGBTQIA+ clients seeking gender-affirming care. For several years he’s worked with adolescents as a counselor, mentor, and community organizer. Axel is a regular collaborator and facilitator with the Grand Rapids Pride Center and speaks at Universities and schools to promote cultural understanding of underserved communities.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I provide a nonjudgmental and safe therapeutic environment for my clients and I value client-therapist alliance above anything else. I have a direct yet empathetic therapy style, collaborating with my clients to help achieve their goals. I love working with couples who struggle with communication and connection, who want to learn how to reconnect or "fight better". I also love empowering partners to find their voice and express their needs in a relationship.

It can be difficult to begin the process of therapy. I am honored to support couples, families and individuals who want to begin to do that work. I offer a relational space that focuses on feeling safe and understood. My approach is from a family systems lens with somatic influences. It is the focus of my work to support the repair of broken relationships with others and one self through emotional exploration. Areas of interest include but are not limited to family and couple relationships, sexual intimacy, non-traditional families, addiction, high conflict, the family court system, play therapy and more.

My passion is helping others find ways to manage their challenges in this ever-changing journey we call life. For over 27 years I have worked with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families in a variety of settings; including home, school, office, and in the community. I pride myself in building therapeutic relationships with each individual I work with. By achieving this, I believe we can then work together to help identify what is challenging you currently to get you to the life you choose to live successfully.

Practicing since 2005, I work with children and teens, families and individuals and specialize in trauma, attachment, behavioral issues, children's mental health, relationship issues and transitions with the family life cycle. I assess clients and their presenting concerns with a welcoming, non-judgmental , solution-focused approach. My client-centered manner empowers the individual to realize strengths and assets available to them and how to compensate for and overcome identified barriers.

I interlace myriad strategies for assuaging complex trauma, increasing vulnerability, improving emotional and physical intimacy, strengthening relationships, and decreasing the disconnecting symptoms of anxiety, depression, and personality disorders, specifically Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

Tracy Thompson is the owner of the Family Therapy Place, and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Tracy specializes in working with children and families who have discovered that life can be a tough journey. Tracy’s training and speciality is with children who have experienced developmental trauma, often due to neglect or abuse. Tracy has a strong belief and training in the experiences of attachment and works with families to rebuild and nurture attachments when they have been broken. Tracy also works with adult families that are working to manage and resolve conflict that has surfaced or created separation within the family.

Tele-mental health therapy provides the means of reaching clients who might, otherwise, never seek treatment due to reasons such as having anxiety about entering a therapist's office, time factor or distance, illness, or continued need for social distancing. I utilize a HIPPA supported tele-health platform. Each allows clients to engage in secure and confidential telehealth appointments. Clients are granted access to private tele-mental health sessions while remaining inside the security and comfort of your home, or perhaps during the office lunch break. I offer weekday sessions, as well as limited evening and weekend appointments.
