Dr. Joyce Maguire Pavao-Founder and CEO of Center For Family Connections, Inc. (CFFC - est. 1995-2012), Adoption Resource Center, est.1978, and PACT (Pre/Post Adoption Consulting and Training),est.1982. Dr. Pavao has built comprehensive post adoption services and has done training, both nationally and internationally. She is a Lecturer in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and has written The Family of Adoption (1998/2005). Dr. Pavao has received many awards and honors, including the Adoption Excellence Award for Family Contribution (2003), and the Angels in Adoption award (2000).

I offer individual telehealth therapy, through a user-friendly, HIPAA compliant platform to adults and seniors. I accept Medicare, most commercial insurancesand out-of-pocket payment. I have more than 19 years of experience collaborating with clients to successfully address a variety of behavioral, relationship and challenging life issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, life transitions, substance abuse and infidelity. I utilize a number of therapeutic modalities, depending on the issue to be addressed, including cognitive behavioral, humanistic, self psychology, motivational interviewing and EMDR.

How will I - a California trained LMFT – be more effective for you? Unlike many Massachusetts counselors based in the “medical model” I don’t treat symptoms, I treat systems. I’ll work with you and partners/spouses or family members, if you choose to include them, to identify not "What’s wrong with me?” but rather, “How'd I get here?” We’re all products of our childhood. I'll work with you to identify the faulty agreements forced upon you before you could defend yourself against them, co-discover alternate viewpoints about yourself and the world and then enact these new agreements to create a new life.

Who you are: a millennial individual (or couple!) and finally ready to explore therapy. I help you articulate what’s at the root of your concerns: What's important to you? What do you value? How is your life currently aligned with those values and what is getting in the way? I help you better understand yourself, your needs, and how to get those needs met. It is important to me that the space we create is compassionate, curious, reflective, and interactive. Common issues that I work on in therapy include life transitions, managing stress/anxiety, building your sense of Self, relationship concerns, and improving communication.
