While I have a commitment to those people who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression having to do with disruptive life changes. At the present time the Pandemic has forced the need to change, even so many of the habits that have worked for us. The sense of isolation has exponentially heightened fears and whatever loneliness existed before is exacerbated. This has changed my practice both physically and as it relates to style. Support is so necessary to guide the way to management of fears and management of major transitions. My background includes many years at the Out Patient Unit of the Veterans Hospital Post Traumatic Stress
To begin with I have had a great deal of success in establishing trusting and open relationships where collaboration allows a minimum of defensiveness. I use humor and metaphor (sometimes even paradigmatic) responses to work against self concepts that lead to restriction. The idea is to open blocked pathways through dynamic interpersonal exchange.
My work has been directed at symptoms of anxiety and depression. In addition, I have worked successfully with marital and family difficulties. The other paragraphs didn't allow for disclosure of behavioral and cognitive techniques which can augment the core relationship. Most important is the sense that one is understood. The emphasis is change for success
