Life can be tough and difficulties are unavoidable, but counseling can help strengthen your internal resources so you can navigate stressors more effectively. I work with adults to help them manage stress, ease anxiety & depression, and increase self-awareness. My approach is based in empathy & curiosity, and my goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment. At a pace that is comfortable, we’ll work collaboratively to explore and process thoughts & feelings, clarify personal goals, and identify barriers to growth. Together we may explore strengths, practice skills, and identify strategies to facilitate the change you desire.

I work with my therapy dog “co-therapists” (non-shedding labradoodles). I have a deep personal commitment to celebrating diversity and working with individuals with unique life experiences and identities. I am especially passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ folks (and am Queer/Genderqueer myself).

My name is Hilary Viens and I am a clinically licensed social worker (LICSW) and therapist in Vermont & Florida. I have 17 years of experience working in clinical social work settings and I am passionate about the field of mental health. I obtained a Master’s degree in clinical social work from Smith College in 2005. Since obtaining my MSW, I have worked in many settings providing crisis stabilization, therapeutic services, supervision, and community advocacy. In addition, I have specialized training in working with folks experiencing the following: intimate partner violence (IPV), histories of incarceration, and/or extreme states.

We are co-creators, lead by you, the expert in your healing and challenges. In a non pathologizing relationship that is rooted in trust, empathy, and curiosity, we can sit with difficult feelings, symptoms and experiences. Together we cultivate self-understanding and acceptance as they are the sources of empowerment and authenticity. In order to heal, we must sift through painful experiences, narratives, and feelings. Therapy is difficult and rewarding work that requires bravery, authenticity, and self-forgiveness. Acknowledging our growth edges while also releasing burdens that are no longer serving us.
