I believe that, as people, we are resilient and have an innate ability to weather life's storms. I also believe that we weather those storms better when we are equipped with tools, strategies, and support from others. I use a myriad of evidence-based approaches to tailor treatment to the unique needs of each client. I enjoy helping individuals to draw upon and discover their own strengths and abilities as they overcome challenges, and become stronger in the process. I have experience working with adults, adolescents, and children (ages 5 and older) in residential treatment centers, day treatment programs, and outpatient settings.

There is place for everyone in counseling. Whether you are navigating a life change, dealing with an overwhelming challenge, or just need a safe space to process your thoughts, there is a place for you. I believe there is a power in awareness and acceptance. In counseling, we co-create a space to harness that power through exploration and insight. Who you are does not need to be defined by struggle or labels. Working through challenges can add to the depth and strength in each of us. In counseling, we find the tools that can help you tap into that strength.

As someone who has lived with the symptoms of anxiety and depression for years, I know how difficult life can be when these things weigh you down. Fortunately, this doesn't have to be so. I am experienced in applying therapeutic skills that I personally know to be powerful in alleviating suffering and improving lives. While my therapeutic background is in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), I am experienced in working within an eclectic therapeutic framework, and I call on various methods as necessary. I enjoy working with both teens and adults, and I also work well with LGBTQ+ clients.

I am passionate about breaking down the stigmas surrounding mental health. So often we find ourselves with negative thoughts and beliefs about ourselves, others, or the world around us that hold us back from understanding or seeing who we really are and what we can become. I seek to help individuals break down their negative and distorted thinking so they can see themselves and the world around them in a more healthy and positive way. I enjoy working with young adults and older teenagers who struggle with a range of anxiety, depression, and negative views of self.

Hi! I'm glad you're here. Choosing a licensed professional can be an important step in improving any area of your life. While I do have specific areas of focus, I also welcome working with most any concerns. I've successfully assisted clients through a variety of difficulties but if it turns out I'm not adequately qualified or not a good fit to help you, I will do my best to connect you with someone who can. I tell my clients they should know in 1-3 sessions if we feel like a good fit!

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
