We all face our own challenges and come across barriers in life, whether from inside us or within our environments, that make it difficult to reach our goals and live the lives we want to live. These struggles can take many forms such as despair, hopelessness, and anxiety. We are not meant to walk through life physically, mentally, or emotionally isolated and without the help of others. I hope to be able to provide that help for those who need it. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, shame, or something else, I look forward to speaking with you so that we can work together on finding the next steps forward.

I have a passion for working with youth who are navigating trauma, anxiety, identity, substance use, and other mental health issues. I'm specifically honored to serve LGBTQiA+ folks as a proud member of the queer community myself. I love helping anyone tap into their autonomy, self-love, find their strengths, and accomplish their goals. I practice harm reduction, which helps people determine how to do what they want to do (whether that be coming out as transgender or non-binary, building community, sexual exploration, drug use, etc.) to their own level of comfort and safety at their own pace.

Life has a way of putting us in boxes and layering expectations on every facet of our identity. It’s tiring, it’s overwhelming, and it limits the joy we find in our day to day. You don’t have to subscribe to these roles that blunt you, though! The perfectionism, anxiety, depression and imposter syndrome don’t have to define you and you definitely don’t have to dismantle it alone. You’ll lead me through a trail that you’ve walked before and I’ll point out the landmarks that you’ve become numb to. I’ll point out new paths you could take, but you always have control in deciding whether you try a new way or not.

You're not a cookie, and I am not a cookie-cutter therapist. Every person is unique, and my counseling approach is very much tailored to your specific needs. For most people, counseling may be a last resort, one final effort after they’ve tried everything else. Some worry that seeking therapy means they’ve failed; and for others, the idea of therapy is just plain scary or not the way they were “taught to deal with things”. Even so, the fact that you’re reading this means you want to take back control and begin creating the life you really want. Well, you’ve come to the right place!

Therapy can be an intimidating and difficult endeavor, but often with worthwhile results. Sometimes we simply want to understand ourselves better, improve our relationships, or find more balance in our lives, and other times we have serious concerns with our mood, anxiety, or current behavioral patterns. I use a personable, humorous approach in therapy to assist in navigating some of the discomfort inherent in the therapeutic process. Therapy is a place of non-judgment, and I am open and accepting of all persons and identities.

Life can be stressful, but with support, compassion, and some laughter along the way, the possibilities are limitless. I believe that it truly takes a "village" in working toward emotional wellness, and counseling is one of those gifts we are given. I have a passion for assisting individuals in finding purpose at the core of their existence. I enjoy working collaboratively alongside my clients in order to create a space for self-exploration and healing.

Perhaps you are wondering if therapy can be helpful when, up until now, talking about issues just has not worked. Perhaps you are curious to try again with the hope that this time, a different approach may work to address your trauma, your depression, your anxiety, and your pain. Perhaps you question whether healing is even possible. But, some part of you has hope that, maybe this time, therapy will help. I speak to that part.

Welcome to Peony Counseling! I chose the beautiful, lush peony as a symbol for growing a "fuller and richer life" through psychotherapy. At Peony Counseling, we work together to move you towards wholeness as an individual and in your relationships. Life is difficult and we frequently get stuck with grief, trauma, transitions, resentment or anxiety that can feel overwhelming and lonely. It is my belief that we all can use some help at these times in our lives that don't make sense or feel really dark. "The wound is where the Light enters you." Rumi

Are you feeling stressed and overwhelmed by life? I would love to help offer some new strategies. My goal is to provide a warm and encouraging environment for you to share your story and to help you find strength to overcome your struggles. Since we are all unique, I believe that counseling is not a “one size fits all” approach. I pull from multiple theories in order to tailor my guidance to fit each client.

Hello! I'm so glad you're here. I want to be a helper and guidepost for women navigating the complicated times life brings. I aim to bring warmth and humor with a judgment-free space for each individual to breathe and do the hard work of the healing and growing process. I primarily see women ages 19 and up, and offer in person session or virtual. As I had people in my young life that saw me and walked with me through doubt, hard times and uncertainty, I know these influences made a positive impact on my life. They are who inspire me to sit, kneel, crawl or walk with you, at whatever the pace.

After 15+ years of practice and training other therapists, I have learned working with someone who “gets” you can be nurturing and healing. I believe this happens when the therapist brings their personal authenticity to your session, and research tells us this is one of the most critical elements in therapy. Listening deeply, asking the right questions, and providing honest and helpful feedback tailored to your personality are the other skills that complete the picture. It is my passion to help people to change painful patterns, to heal, to become whole, and to find their life’s joy and fulfillment.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
