Stress, frustration, sadness, anxiety. These are all feelings we experience and are able to manage most of the time. Sometimes though, you may need a little more help than the people closest to you can provide. Our sessions will give you some time to care for yourself. You will have the opportunity to grieve your losses, develop new coping skills, make informed decisions, and improve your relationships. We work together so you can stay present and connected, even as events and people around us shift with uncertainty.

As the owner of Life Guidance Associates I love seeing my patients get better! I firmly believe a "good fit" between therapist and patient is key to success! I Integrate evidence based strategies. My style is direct and interpersonal. In treatment we will address not only your current issues but their source. Therapy is always a collaborative experience for my patients. It takes some time to fully resolve years of interpersonal relationship problems, previous trauma, unhealthy coping skills, feelings of emptiness, helplessness, powerlessness, anxiety, depression etc. but with patience and persistence it can be done!

I began my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) later in life, and I have great passion for the work I do with my clients. I have 10+ years of experience as a therapist for children/teens, adults, and families. I have worked in out-patient, school-based, in-home, and community settings. With younger children and parents, I often employ the principles of Parent-Child Interactive Therapy, focusing on child-directed and parent-directed play. For family therapy, I use a relational approach that is based on positive communication, mutual respect, and active listening skills. I enjoy collaborating with clients on goals.

I provide therapy for individuals, couples, families, adults and children. I have worked with many different clients providing the support needed for change. My experience at various social service agencies, at a child and family clinic; and in a college clinic has given me the opportunity to work with many adults, children, adolescents and families. I find my training in marriage and family therapy is particularly helpful for my clients in that it helps individuals better understand their relationships with themselves and others in their life. I regularly look at the systemic process in relationships, and at attachment issues.

People create knowledge in relationships. We NEED other minds to hone impressions into skills. We need explicit communication: this is HOW to create knowledge. The risks of self-disclosure are offset with great attendance, courage & proactive participation. It is HOW not WHAT problem is raised that yields solutions. Emotions are priceless data delivery systems; respected, examined & honored. Honest, caring connection buffer high-risk daring sharing. Problems are commonplace, unlike problem solving. Doing things differently creates different outcomes. At OATS YOU will build performance strength or you will be gone. It is up to you.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
