I work closely with individuals, couples, and families who are looking to improve the quality of their personal lives and relationships. Often, feelings of anxiety, sadness, or hopelessness can either result from or lead to difficulties in the quality of our interpersonal relationships. My therapeutic approach is a strength-based and solution-focused model of support that is geared toward identifying strategies to help people better manage their own personal emotions, while simultaneously strengthening their bonds with partners and other loved ones.

We are living a life where we always have to be “on.” Life is nonstop, whatever the focus is. You are anxious constantly and feeling overwhelmed daily. You are the person everyone goes to for support but now it’s time to focus on you. Therapy is a space for you to put a stop to the nonstop. Every individual deserves to have a therapeutic space to unpack some of the baggage that is weighing on him/her/them. As sessions progress, you’ll feel equipped in managing your busy days as well as build skills and insight towards what may have been holding you back from living the life you want to live.

As we go through various life transitions, sometimes we feel burdensome to our friends and family. You may feel like the people you love don’t understand you. You may even feel like a stranger to yourself. I am here to provide you a safe space to process those feelings and help you through this period of change. We can learn who this new you is whether you are a new parent, divorcee, empty nester, dealing with grief or loss of a loved one, dealing with a new diagnosis or illness, working on your relationship or marriage, starting school or a new career, or just getting older and learning to cope.

Let's be honest, things have been stressful lately! And even though you know everyone is going through it, it doesn't bring you much comfort and you may even feel like you are alone with this. You may have already had a lot going on before things changed and now you have that and this compounded together. The weight of it all can get pretty heavy at times and you are trying to be the best you can with everyone around you. You put on your best straight-face and a smile but worry that you're one moment away from losing it. Imagine how great it will feel to let all that go and feel more in control and confident!

When life gets challenging, it can be helpful to reach out and speak to someone who can offer you guidance and support. No matter what brings you to therapy- a career change, relationship conflict, starting college, a break-up/divorce, financial stress or grieving the loss of someone you love, therapy can help. These situations can often lead to anxiety, depression or elevated stress levels. It's important to reach out to someone who can offer you a safe space, who can listen to your story without judgment and help you figure out the next steps so you can move forward on your path to wellness.

The journey from adolescence to young adulthood can be stressful and overwhelming for both individuals and their families. Between social pressures, academic expectations, and familial relationships, some people can get trapped in a cycle of negative emotions. I work with teenagers, young adults and their families who are struggling through this exciting time full of changes. I have helped individuals and families build strength and resilience in a number of settings, including schools, mental health clinics and as a pediatric social worker in NYC hospital systems.

You feel stressed out all the time. You have managed to keep everything together for years but you feel like you are barely holding on. You are exhausted all the time and often think you just can't do it anymore. On the outside, it seems like you have it all it. You’re accomplished, driven, and dependable. But on the inside, you never feel good enough and the voice in your head often reminds you of all the ways you’re falling short. You're tired of giving so much to everyone else while you continue to come last on your list. Not anymore. Now is the time to prioritize yourself and make a positive change.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
