Hamster wheel spinning in your head? I help adults going through life challenges find a sense of peace and productivity, moving from surviving to thriving. We often take the responsibility of the world on our shoulders. Put on your oxygen mask first. Selfish doesn't have to be a bad word. We will work collaboratively to determine your goals. Do you need time to process? Problem-solve? Learn emotional regulation & distress tolerance? Support & guidance? You want to be heard and feel comfortable and not judged. You will find compassion, validation & a positive/strength based approach with a good dose of humor.

I believe that therapy should not only be individualized to support the child and family in terms of the challenges they are currently facing, but I also believe therapy should be individualized in terms of the location I serve it. Providing therapy where the need is means that therapy can be delivered in multiple domains such as office, home and childcare settings. My role is to help you and support you in your journey as parents and caregivers through challenging times and transitions. I am a behaviorist that takes on a strength based and family systems approach. I believe that every child has skills and strengths to build on.

Humans are emotional beings. And our emotions affect our thinking, our sense of what is going on, and our actions. It is not a sign of disease to feel overwhelmed or angry, or to feel anxious and down at times. Or to feel numb, flat or blank. Or to have thoughts that seem “crazy." It is human. But it can be confusing, and lead to behaviors that aren’t helpful. I will collaborate with you to understand what you are feeling and how you might bring things into a more comfortable balance. I have a special interest and expertise working with anxiety disorders, with cardiac and chronic illness patients and people with thought disorders.

Many persons I see are exploring spirituality for their personal growth and deeper understanding of themselves and their difficulties. They increasingly sense the limiting nature of the fear based ego. An ego that can limit or sabotage their choices and relationships. Yet a clear steady path from stubborn ego patterns to their authentic self can be elusive. I draw from Eastern teachings, meditation practices, the Enneagram, ACIM, and the Hawkin's map of consciousness for this path. I emphasize emotional mindfulness and the intuition that arises in the Silence and stillness of meditation to recognize Spirit in oneself and others.

Women, despite being the foundation of our society (I am a little biased, of course), are often given too much stress to manage effectively. We have to be employees, mothers, wives, friends, daughters and sisters, just to name a few roles that we play. When there is friction or "conflict" in any one of these roles, life can get complicated. I am passionate about supporting women in our many phases of life. I also serve the Latino (Spanish-speaking) community in a culturally sensitive manner.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
