I provide a positive and supportive approach to helping children, adolescents, adults and families who are navigating a variety of emotional or transitional challenges, including anxiety, mood disorders, school issues, family conflict and other sources of stress or disruption that may affect daily functioning or emotional well-being. I apply a person-centered and strength-based approach which involves respecting and encouraging a client's own goals and perspectives. I also work closely with parents to help identify practical and personalized strategies and interventions to address the many challenges that come with raising children and teenagers.

What if life's stressors could feel a bit more manageable? What if we could set ambitious, yet realistic goals and accomplish them one-by-one? Despite all of the stressors facing us on a day-to-day basis, positive change is attainable. My approach to therapy is strength-based and involves a warm, collaborative process in which we assess barriers to success, set realistic goals, and monitor progress over time.

I believe people have the ability and strength to heal and change, sometimes we just need a little help in getting there. Through an integrative approach, I help clients recognize their strengths, and explore their patterns to help them realize their full potential. I believe that the core of therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship - my practice style is warm and empathic - I truly enjoy getting to know my clients, and I believe the relationship between therapist and client is essential in change.

I work primarily with women who are struggling with identity crises and self-acceptance, depression and anxiety, self-trust and overwhelm. First, we have a history-taking and goal-setting session. We then use gentle self-care to establish a healthy mental wellness routine. Next, I guide you toward your goals. Our work together is complete, usually after 6-12 months, when you have met those goals and have a strong, accepting sense of who you are.

Life is hard. Perhaps you feel stuck or unhappy without knowing why. Maybe you are reading this because you have been impacted by difficulties in your life causing you pain right now. Most of us can't escape the suffering inherent to life. Relationship problems, anxiety, depression, mindbody disorders, self-defeating patterns, attention/learning problems, trauma and abuse frequently motivate people to enter therapy. Your ability to accept help when needed is the hallmark of inner strength. Knowledge is power, and knowledge about yourself is at the core of how you relate to others, cope, and make decisions in your life

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, parenting difficulties, chronic stress, life transitions or the effects of trauma? Would you like psychotherapy to be a collaborative process, where we determine a personalized approach to our work together? I typically blend insight-oriented therapy to deepen self-understanding, mindfulness practices to cultivate awareness and compassion, cognitive-behavioral interventions for symptom relief, and mind-body medicine for regulating the nervous system. With specialized training in yoga and meditation, I enjoy interweaving Western clinical psychology with Eastern yoga and mindfulness-based practices for a holistic, strengths based, mind-body approach to health and well being.

Therapy is often about change - changing oneself or parts of one's life. Taking steps towards change requires tremendous courage, but many people find the rewards of this process well worth the effort. A supportive, helpful guide can go a long way towards making productive changes and that is where I come in. Support is my primary role; my secondary role is to help individuals identify thoughts or behaviors that are limiting progress in one's life. In addition to helping with a wide range of common symptoms like stress, anxiety, depression, I specialize in health psychology (coping with illness).

The hardest part of overcoming a challenge is knowing where to start. In counseling, we can discover together what is getting in the way of living your best life. Whether you're struggling to manage emotions (e.g. anxiety, sadness), keep up with work/school, master your relationship with technology, or navigate recent life transitions, it can feel overwhelming at times to go it alone! I will work with you to identify your "stuck points", collaboratively create a plan to address the areas you want to work on, and support you in replacing approaches that don't work with ones that do. Change is hard but worth the effort!

I’m proud to be a wise elder. I have academic strengths & years of working with people, but most of all, I have the wisdom that comes with age & the intuition to connect & mindshare with you. Maybe you’ve never felt understood & have a negative self-concept projected onto you by dysfunctional elders that you carried into the present. Know that you have the innate human ability to heal. You can be helped to see the roots of your old maladaptive beliefs & you can replace them with positive, realistic ones for today-a new narrative for your life.

In a non-judgemental, respectful atmosphere I accompany people along their journey to living richer, more meaningful life. I encourage people to broaden their awareness into their thoughts, feelings, reactions and behaviors to identify strengths and whats working and challenges and how they are getting in the way. Recognizing the the mind-body-spirit connection, understanding healthy and antiquated defenses and increasing capacity for feeling a greater range of emotions at a deeper level is an important focus of the psychotherapy process. Identifying feelings, understanding reactions and learning better, more effective means of communicating with others is integral as well.

Through my experience in working with adults and older adults, I am aware of the unique challenges that they encounter during these stages of life. In my practice, I focus on one's strengths and I help clients to recognize their own distinct set of coping skills to live the good quality of life that they deserve to live. I provide Telehealth via Zoom to allow clients the ability to receive support in the comfort and safety of their own homes.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
