As each individual's path to wellness is unique, I utilize an integrative, holistic approach tailored to each specific client to optimize the therapeutic experience and ensure the best possible outcomes. Challenging life experiences can lead to people becoming stuck in negative, self-defeating patterns. I can assist you in determining the right course of action to take in order to achieve the clarity, self confidence and courage required to heal. Move forward and break free from unwanted behavioral patterns and limiting beliefs! I work with individuals, couples, and adolescents. I have developed an immense toolkit of therapeutic techniques over the years to share with my clients. I am steeped in Eastern as well as Western treatment modalities, and enjoy incorporating somatic, sound, and mindfulness healing techniques into my work in addition to the more traditional forms of cognitive and behavioral therapies.

I am passionate about providing education and empowerment around the mind-body connection. We learn to understand how the mind and body may be in survival mode and how a learned response may no longer serve us. Holding space allows for the body and mind to create space from imprinted thoughts & emotions in order to see choice in self-talk, belief systems, behaviors, and gain acceptance of ourselves. We learn how to rewire/rewrite our narrative through self-compassion.

10 years previous experience working with pregnant and parenting women in residential treatment for addiction recovery, specializing in relapse prevention, and co-occurring mental health issues. My focus was on helping these women to understand their family of origin issues and how they had impacted their lives so profoundly in unhealthy ways. Through psychoeducation in individual and group counseling, we worked on increasing self-worth, developing sober emotional coping skills, self-advocacy skills, and self-empowerment. Now in private practice 5 years, I focus on psychoeducation for addressing trauma history and related issues.

I am a highly trained and experienced clinical social worker whose practice invites individuals, couples & families facing adaptational challenges of all kinds throughout the life cycle: infancy through end-of-life. Working with strength-based developmental treatment models, I find best results are achieved in strong collaboration with individuals (and designated family members), who have the capacity to engage in a meaningful therapeutic relationship, have good family and social supports, and are motivated for change.

I work within a Holistic and Strength-Based Foundation, with a profound understanding of the impact of environmental elements, and the effects these elements cause in the mind and body. Emotional influences cognitive influences physical/physiological influences emotional well-being: these internal systems are intricately woven in a magnificent tapestry that is the individual at any given moment. The individual is further affected by the external systems of family, job, school, neighborhood, spiritual affiliations, nutritional selections, and on and on. I believe in the power of the individual to learn to heal the Self and achieve Wellness and Peace in all Systems.

For over 25 years, I have been working directly with persons with mood disorders, substance use, trauma and managing life's stressors. I practice a holistic approach which is strength based, solution focused and psychodynamic. I specialize in mindfulness based practices, cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. Beginning with our own awareness can allow us to slow down, notice, and change unhealthy patterns. These strategies are essential in transitioning from feeling unsettled towards being able to ride waves of challenge with ease and intention.

My counseling style is warm, empathetic, and collaborative using a strength-based approach and always starting where my client is at.
Welcome. I am so glad you have taken the first steps in seeking help. These first steps are often the hardest and take a lot of courage and vulnerability, but also the start of a beautiful journey to healing. I am committed to providing a safe space where a person is comfortable, connected, empowered, and respected. That is when an individual can learn and do the work needed for healing, change and growth.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
