With the use of strength-based interventions we can find a safe, culturally-responsive, and a non-judgmental environment to support your needs and overcome challenges.
As a daughter of immigrants, I am familiar with the struggles of feeling like an outsider, facing ongoing acculturation, as well as the stress and anxiety that comes with resettlement and starting over. I strive to normalize therapy and make it accessible to anyone struggling with their cultural or personal identity, including the immigrant community and anyone seeking therapy for the first time. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable with someone new is often one of the most challenging aspects of starting therapy. There is a stigma associated with seeking professional help for mental health in many communities.

I work to create an environment that feels warm and supportive for each person. The relationship between the client and therapist is a true measure on how helpful the counseling experience will be for an individual. My goal is to guide and empower clients to make important meaningful changes in their life. I primarily use the methods of strength based and person centered talk therapy to achieve these outcomes. I believe everyone has the capacity to tap into the intuitive part of them self and use that wisdom to improve their life. People do have the ability to make positive changes in their life.

Some therapies I use include cognitive behavioral therapy, strength-based therapy, person-centered, symptom management, coping, conflict resolution, relationship, addictions, grief/loss, problem-solving, insight-oriented therapy, crisis intervention and supportive therapy.
Are you worried? Are you experiencing sadness or difficulty getting things done? Do you find that you are not enjoying things as you used to? Are you experiencing relationship problems or are your family concerns and responsibilities becoming overwhelming? Do you have self-critical or self-blaming thoughts? I have over 25 years of experience working to help improve people's lives in these and many other areas. My patients find that in working with me they gain the “mental health tool kit” to increase their well-being.

I’ve worked in in the mental health field for nearly 25 years, in inpatient and residential settings, as well as in the community. I’ve worked with diverse populations, primarily with adults of all ages, and also have experience working with adolescents who’ve experienced significant trauma. I’ve worked extensively with individuals diagnosed with severe anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation (and attempts), mood disorders, psychosis, borderline personality disorder, as well as intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental differences. I believe mental health services should be accessible to all and seek to make that a reality.

Whomever you are, I welcome you. If you are feeling stuck in your life or treatment, I extend hope and encouragement that change and transformation are possible. If you've experienced past trauma that left you feeling inadequate, you can heal and reclaim your true self and life. If, in the process of coping, you developed habits that now hinder you, you can break free and develop compassionate and wise ways to be with your difficulties. If you feel disconnected from your self/body/others, feel shut down, and/or constantly feel on edge, with guidance you can learn to feel safe, trust again, and find joy and meaning in your life.

I am most passionate about walking with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, identity, self-esteem, body image, relationship challenges, and adjustment (into college or into young adult life), but find purpose in all my counseling relationships. In those relationships, I find it equally important to grieve and sit in brokenness and pain with clients as it is to celebrate growth, healing, and health.

When thinking about the clients I most enjoy working with I imagine the people who are willing to put in the work, even when it can be challenging. They want to know more about themselves, their experience and how to be the best version of themselves. Willing to explore how their experiences and relationships have shaped them over the years as well as how to heal from some of them as well. It can be difficult at times to determine exact goals prior to coming into therapy so we can figure those out together.

I believe that relationships are at the core of any effective therapy. It is important to me that the children and families I work with feel heard and respected. I am flexible in my approaches and how I deliver therapy. This allows me to be able to focus on the strengths of the child and family. I utilize interests, abilities, and passions to provide services that are engaging, comfortable, and impactful. I believe that children, adolescents and young adults thrive best in therapy when they are allowed to express themselves in the way that is most natural for them.

I am Clinical Therapist with over 10 years of experience working primarily with children, teens, and young adults. I use various play techniques and engaging activities to learn about the areas of need a child may have and what kinds of behaviors those needs have impacted. I am happy to work with parents who might be needing guidance or feedback regarding their children's behaviors or mental health needs as well. In addition to working with children, I also see some adolescents and young adults struggling with life changes and other mental health needs.

Life can be difficult to navigate. Often we are indoctrinated by others beliefs and don't truly know who we are let alone how to live our lives. When energy gets stuck in the body and mind, whether it's from trauma, painful experiences or everyday stimuli in our lives, it causes patterns of unhealthy thoughts and behaviors.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
