Steven Brawer
Psychologist, PhD
I help parents caught in power struggles with their children and teens. ADHD, defiance, temper tantrums, shyness, sleep problems, under-achievment, depression, anxiety, bullying, and peer problems are all conditions I treat in children and adults. I treat families with issues regarding divorce, remarriage, sibling rivalry, communication and parental discord.
I help parents learn to set firm limits in calm, non-reactive ways; parents who are frustrated, feeling helpless, over-reacting with anger, and unable to control children's behavior are taught a simple, easy-to-learn approach to eliminating undesirable behavior that can be mastered within a few weeks.
I effectively assist adult and child clients in vocalizing their concerns, feelings and needs with an emphasis on emotional attunement. I help parents identify the "buttons" that get triggered by kids so that they can have better control, freeing them from using shame and criticism on themselves or their children.
