I believe it is natural for humans to want to change how they feel. Unfortunately, how we seek this change can determine the difference between healthy vs. unhealthy behavior. My work is guiding you through an in-depth exploration of how early experiences have shaped your sense of self and how you manage feelings. My goal is to help you develop both a compassionate view of these experiences and a more secure sense of self. With a prior background in entertainment, I work with actors/artists/writers/entertainment professionals, grief/loss ( of people, time, dreams, pets), trauma, dual diagnosis and gay men navigating mid-life.
Dual Diagnosis is the combination of substance abuse/self-medication (e.g. drugs/alcohol, sex) PLUS an underlying mental health issues (e.g. depression, anxiety, trauma) that may have gone undiagnosed. Once established, clients begin distinguishing between self-medicating and self-soothing behaviors and working toward improved methods of self-regulation.
I work psychoanalytically, which is an in-depth exploration of how early life experiences and relationships directly influence how we respond to events currently happening in our lives. Instead of focusing on "changing", I advocate for "evolving" and becoming more than what we have been led to believe we are.
