Steve Hammil Counseling, MA, LMHC, Counselor in Seattle
I am particularly interested in working with people struggling with the on going effects of problematic learning experiences like abuse, neglect and loss; especially those of early childhood. Often people suffering from the painful effects of traumatic experiences have never really felt whole, known peace or felt truly acceptable. Much too often they blame themselves. Bouts of depression and anxiety are all too frequent. In therapy you undo the underlying causes of fear, shame and grief that drive depression, anxiety and dissociation. You learn how to live a life that is meaningful, satisfying and free of the ties that bind.
Therapy involves updating the nervous system, the body and the story we tell ourselves. Over time you adjust the ways that once served your very survival, but now may be overreactions to otherwise relatively safe situations. You become the author of your life rather than the ghosts of your past.
My speciality is Dissociative Identify Disorder. Most people come to my office in fear of this diagnosis. They are terrified they are crazy. You are not crazy and multiplicity is not the problem. To learn more please go to my website for more information.
