I am fully certified as and EMDR therapist, and within that, Ego State Therapy, the use of parts of the self is most important. Also, the mind and body connection is something that I explore with all of my clients. I had a career of many years out in industry, so that allows me to identify with my clients much more. I have lived a life they are living now and had many of the same difficulties.
Success in counseling depends very much on the rapport between the counselor and the client. With that in mind though, counseling is not just a friendly conversation. There are newer, evidence based methods of therapy shown to be highly effective, like EMDR. My work is always goal directed.
What is special about my practice is that I bring to the table a lifetime of experience working both in counseling and out in industry, from laborer to executive. Also, my philosophy includes the "healthy mind, healthy body" approach. Finding a comfortable healthy lifestyle can be the starting point for emotional healing and problem solving.
