Emotional/psychological distress can originate and find continued expression in our bodies, minds, families, and communities. We tend to respond to such suffering in polarized ways that produce further imbalance. We worry, attempt to control, develop repetitive, troubling thoughts, or just obsess about our lives. Or we may do the opposite; avoid, isolate, refuse contact with situations we perceive to be dangerous, or check out entirely. Working relationally, I help my patients develop critical self-knowledge and build tolerance to the fear and distress that prevents them from committing to valued aspects of their lives.
I use exposure response prevention (ERP), in combination with mindfulness, to help people gain access to valued ways of living. I am also trained to assess for complex trauma, PTSD, and dissociation using both informal and structured diagnostic assessments. I work collaboratively to establish an environment conducive to a committed therapeutic journey.
