I love being a counselor and have been in private practice for the last 12 years or so. I have a great deal of experience and training working with all addiction issues, including eating disorders. I also treat the more common struggles of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.
I view each client as more than a "client." They are people, like me, who want to feel valuable and lovable and to live life in a fulfilling and balanced way. In that way, we are all quite similar, and there is connection and compassion in that.
I feel like you are already halfway there by reaching out and making the step to get therapy. Healthy people get therapy; you don't have to be super "unwell" or "crazy" to get therapy. I think recognizing you need help in an area of your life (or many) is a sign of help and self-care.
