Our therapists specialize in providing behavioral therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Prolonged Exposure, and EMDR, in an way that is adherent to the treatment model, and tailored to meet the needs of each individual client. Our team includes social workers and counselors who are dedicated to providing high quality, effective services to individuals struggling with a variety of challenges. In addition to our licensed therapists, we have post-graduate fellows and graduate level interns who provide treatment to clients at a reduced rate while receiving ongoing supervision to grow their expertise.
Our clients come from all walks of life. Though our services are not free, we strive to make them affordable to as many people in our community as possible. We do so by hiring therapists at various levels of licensure and experience and by tapping into the vast resources of the St. Louis area's many high-quality social work and counseling programs to find talented, passionate and intelligent Master-level interns to provide services at a variety of rates. Our therapists specialize in treating a variety of mental health and quality-of-life-interfering issues, including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, impulsive or destructive behavior patterns, and communication/relationship problems.
A dialectic is is the synthesis of two seemingly opposite ideas. It is basically like saying that both sides of a story are valid and have truth. So, rather than saying that in order to live a happy life you either have to accept everything the way that it is OR you have to change everything, we say the dialectic solution is to embrace both ideas - we can learn to mindfully accept that things are the way they are AND we can change reactions, habits and other behaviors. Another example -- Instead of valuing only reasoning and logic OR only our feelings and emotional impulses when choosing action, we learn to consider and value both to reach a "wise mind balance". Dialectical Behavior Therapy seeks to help people learn skills for finding balance and stop the chaotic, and often exhausting, ping-ponging between extremes such as: vacillating between love and hate for others or self; feeling totally incompetent but acting as if you don't need help; feeling every feeling very intensely and then numbing out completely. DBT can help you find your balance.

St. Louis DBT, LLC's Groups

Adult DBT

Skills Groups are run like a class where the group leader teaches skills and practice exercises to help you use the skills at home, school, work and social situations. Classes are organized in four modules: core mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. With 6 sessions per module, it takes 24 sessions, or an average of 6 months to complete all skills classes. Most clients take the four DBT modules more than once to more fully absorb and apply the skills as they become increasingly automatic in most areas of your life.
