Sports Performance and Life Coaching is offered as well.
You are a gift. A miracle. You were born a champion! You were born and brought into this world in pure love. As we experience our life, things happen that cause us to shift from that pure love to emotional discord. As a result, we grow apart from our true self, that pure love. For some, emotional disturbances or conditions develop such as anxiety, depression, anger, negative thinking or self-doubt. I have 25 years experience working with children, adolescents and adults using traditional therapy and cutting edge non-traditional techniques that will help you get you to your goal.

Reaching out to a therapist can be a daunting task. It is difficult to make changes and break unhealthy patterns and anxiety and depression can feel crippling. Therapy can play a large role in helping individuals lead happier, more productive lives. We all face challenges but with the proper support, your challenges do not need to define you or stop you from achieving happiness and success. I believe in treating each patient as an individual. While my orientation is primarily psychodynamic I also use Emotionally Focused Tapping (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

You did everything you were supposed to do. You went to college, got the job, found an apartment but you still feel like crap. You've been on a million dates, but it never seems to work out. At this point, it feels like you're going through the motions. On paper, your life seems great. You're paid well, you have friends, and your Google Calendar is full with events. Your parents brag to their friends how wonderful you are, but you feel guilty for not measuring up. You're not happy and you don't know why.

When we live allowing the past to dictate the future we neglect the present moment and the ability for change. My focus as a therapist is to learn from the past insofar as informs the present day, which will make for a brighter future. My goal as a clinician is to help bring my clients clarity so that they can better manage their stressors, relationships, and create new perspectives. I use an eclectic approach of therapy with my clients as each person is different and requires a form therapy suited for who they are. My specialty is in working with anxiety or depression as well as individuals who have a history of substance abuse.

My passion lies in working with individuals who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness. My work as a psychiatric social worker has influenced my strong belief in the power of talk therapy within the world of psychiatry and mental health as a complement to other treatments. While medications can treat symptoms, processing past experiences can really help address the underlying issues that may be contributing to the symptoms. As your therapist, I want to dig down there with you to understand how past experiences are impacting you now and explore strategies we can put in place to help you move toward your future.

I'm accepting adult, teen, and couple clients. Therapy gives us a safe relationship where we can explore our inner world and consider taking new risks in our outer one. To my mind, therapy is the process of talking things over with someone and, together, giving meaning, hope, and clarity to pain, confusion, or stuckness. I endeavor to bring respect and curiosity to our work together. I believe that we each have the wisdom to solve our problems, but our strengths get blocked when we experience trauma, or linger in negative cycles with loved ones. In our work together, I aim to help you reconnect with your innate ability to thrive.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
