As a former Division I Athlete and US National Team Member, I believe that one of the bravest things we can do is learning how to love ourselves through the process of owning our own storying. Often times the first brave step is just reaching out. Society tends to view therapy as something you need if you have “failed” on your own. However, I tend to think the counseling process is one where we invite someone else to walk alongside us on our journey of figuring out who we are. I believe that as humans we are designed for relationship, and we aren’t intended to do and figure it all out alone.

You woke up again this morning feeling empty, depressed, and anxious about your life and future. The pain of losing your companion twists you up in a ball as you pull the sheets over your head. It would be so much easier to stay there all day, hiding from the world. Except then you’d be alone with your thoughts. And that’s been a total nightmare. There’s nowhere left to hide. The suffering is waiting for you everywhere you turn. Your partner was your everything. How will you navigate this world without them? Everything is different with your loved one gone. You hate this feeling but wonder how you can ever change it. I can help.

"The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it." Having this belief in mind I have learned to help my client's focus on how they want their lives to be different in the future, rather than on what went wrong in the past. I focus on empowering clients to find their own solutions to life's difficulties. My clinical interventions are guided by Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive and Reality Therapy. My area of specialty is addiction, mood disorder, and relationship concerns. My interventions are guided by compassion, integrity, persistence, excellence, and respect.

I want to offer you more than traditional talk therapy, I want to offer you a space to find an inner connection with your mind, body, and soul through exploring emotions, sensations, dreams and the things left unspoken. Sometimes if we skip over our emotions, our bodies will express them through symptomology, and navigating immune sensitivities is complicated. My hope is that the therapy room becomes an experiential space where you hash out what it feels like to engage in safety, connection, resonating with another person. We can navigate this through somatic based EMDR, applied polyvagal, somatic experiencing.

While active listening is an important skill for a therapist, listening can only go so far. All of the therapists here believe that what sets us apart from many other therapists is the fact we actually help you help yourself make the necessary changes in your life by giving you techniques, tools, skills, and guidance to achieve your goals. You'll almost always walk out of a session with a new technique or two that you can go home and start using immediately. All eight of our therapists are highly trained, personable, and ready to give you the stills and techniques you need.

No matter how big or how small, your struggle is valid. So often guys walk into the office thinking they need to carry around everything as if their pain is a badge of honor. You don’t have to carry everything. You don’t have to be alone in your struggle. It is ok to ask for help. Therapy can be a place where you come to learn more about the “why you do what you do” or it can be a place where you can talk without being judged or even fixed. I want to be a part of ushering in a new age of males. Ones that are willing to understand who they are. Ones that are willing to deal with their pain, so others don’t take the brunt.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
