My perspective embraces self-awareness as one of the main instruments in helping free up trauma. Fuller awareness removes the fear of the unknown, gives us distance from distress and the ability to disconnect from automatic behaviors that perpetuate negative reactions and feelings. In the words of international trauma experts “its teaching our clients how to focus on new stimuli they normally might not have noticed...” with “conscious inhibition of old responses”(Jana Fisher and Pat Ogden, March 2011). The intricacies of our humanness prevents freedom from all depression, anxiety, neurosis and traumatic bodily sensations. Yet.....
.....calm exposure of fear and shame, make many complexes lose their threatening qualities. The neurobiology of trauma has shown that individuals ‘feel’ trauma bodily and get stuck when words can’t fix their experience. My goal is to help one access parts that can be utilized for self healing. I also use honesty and a sense of humor.
Various disciplines I have drawn from are: Somatic Sensory Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Focusing, DBT, Hypnotherapy, Metacognitive principals and various other modalities; all which appreciate the non-verbal aspects of trauma.
