I am currently pursuing a certification in Sports and Performance Psychology through the Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP).
I am passionate about working with individuals committed to growth. Personal growth and progress within therapy are topics we will discuss early and often as we begin to build a picture for what role therapy can take to best serve your treatment needs. The work we will do within therapy will center around maximizing your potential through understanding your values. This work is meant to be collaborative and will be based on what is most important to you. During sessions, I will teach dynamic skills to better understand ways of achieving the types of growth desired.

I help athletes who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism and overthinking. If you have a hard time letting go of mistakes, overwhelming anxiety and feel like you can never do enough (both in your sport and life), I hear you. I also see a lot of clients who struggle w/ body image and their relationship to food. Struggling with anxiety can be overwhelming, exhausting and make life (on and off the court) so much harder than it needs to be. If you want to improve you relationship to yourself and to others and see what your performance can be like without negative or anxious thoughts constantly swirling, I am here to help.

Hello everyone! I am a licensed therapist who specializes in marriage and family therapy—that just means that on top of helping with clinical mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, adjustment, etc., I am specially trained in family and relationship needs as well. I picked a specialty in marriage and family therapy because I genuinely believe that societal, family, and cultural conditions deeply influence the way we think, feel, act, and react to day-to-day interactions—which is the foundation of MFT’s systemic perspective.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
