It is important to provide a supportive, attuned presence to help my patients work through the struggles, problems, and difficulties that have brought them into treatment. I build a relationship of trust with my patients in order to help them feel the support and care I have for them. I believe that diligent exploration of a patient's negative emotions and problematic relationships leads to healing. Through the use of simple challenges, highlighting of interpersonal and emotional patterns, encouragement, and honest feedback, my objective is to help the patient feel the love and support needed to heal and change.

We live in a world in which we must rely on relationships. The most common need I hear from clients is the desire to improve their personal and professional relationships. Improving these relationships goes a long way toward improving our own mental health. I have been helping individuals and families navigate important relationships and transitional times in their lives, by helping them find strengths within themselves to solve their problems. With a strong background in Organizational Development, I have worked with a variety of clients: from executives needing help organizationally to individuals finding their path in life.

Do you want to feel more at home in your own skin? Do you wonder why you haven't already "figured things out"? Do behaviors and beliefs that once helped you survive now keep you from authentically relating with others? Does your gut tell you there is another way of being, but you just can't seem to get there? Whatever your aspiration or longing, being a person isn't easy and transformation can feel daunting. Having struggled with these questions myself, it would be my honor to accompany you on your path. My approach is informed by a therapy model called AEDP, which seeks to undo aloneness and draw upon your innate healing capacity.

You've probably already tried to figure out how to feel better. Sick of being told that you're "too sensitive" or "overreacting," you're exhausted by how emotions and memories reach out and grab you, ripping you from your best efforts at stability. The effects of trauma, including high levels of anxiety, may make you wish you could simply just get rid of your emotions. It doesn't seem to matter how smart you are or how great a problem-solver you are in other areas of your life. The end result is that you're discouraged. I offer a collaborative approach with interventions that work. Come work with me and find hope and change.

Many times we find ourselves disconnected and overwhelmed in a fast paced world. We forget what is most meaningful in our lives. We rush from one task to another and rarely pause long enough to ask if our actions support our deepest desires. You want to slow down. You want to feel more peaceful. You want to breathe. You want to know yourself on a deeper level. You want all of these things and yet you put your head down and keep pushing. Our work is getting clear on your deepest desires, slowing down and listening, and nurturing a healthy and sustainable connection to yourself and others.

I believe we all have inner strengths, innate self-worth, and intuition that guides us. Through the ebbs and flows of life, it's common to feel disconnected from our authentic selves. This disconnect can cause us to feel like we're running on auto-pilot, feeling detached and stuck, or experiencing the flames of burnout, where we feel overwhelmed and dysregulated. Both of these responses result in us feeling doubtful and unsatisfied in life. I take a holistic approach to therapy focusing on mind & body aspects to help you restore a sense of harmony & connection and live a more full and satisfying life.

At Seasons Counseling, I see individuals working through a range of experiences: Parenting, relationships, depression, anxiety, grief, spirituality, life transitions, and challenging medical diagnoses.
Some gentle reminders: It's not too late for you + Having feelings means you are human + Not everyone will understand you + You deserve to heal from the things that weren't your fault + You don't have to abandon yourself to be loved + Your sensitivity is a strength, not a flaw + You can (learn to) trust yourself (again). My therapy style is intuitive, imaginative, soulful, and authentic. I practice under the supervision of Lila Heymann, LCSW.

I enjoy working with young adults and adults to address concerns with anxiety, depression, spirituality, self-esteem/body image, relational difficulties, transitions, and more. My desire in counseling is to provide a place where people feel safe, seen, and validated. I love asking questions that help the individual dig deeper to learn about themselves while challenging mindsets that may be hindering growth. Ultimately, I hope to empower my clients to use the skills and knowledge gained in counseling to reach their goals.

I have experience as a health psychologist working with chronic pain and illness and have many years of training in hypnotherapy and meditation techniques and am very interested in the intersection between healing and spirituality.
As a psychologist, with almost 30 years of experience, I approach the therapy relationship with a blend of modern science, ancient wisdom (Secular, Yogic and Buddhist philosophies), common sense, humor and integrity. Increasing awareness through mindful intention and observation of the mind-body, describes my approach to psychotherapy. The therapeutic relationship is collaborative and aimed at identifying your obstacles to healing. The co-creation of a clear pathway between the heart, mind and emotions is the therapeutic work.Your "best self" will be challenged, nurtured and supported in the process.

Has our current health climate inspired you to make a change? Spiritual direction is the process of exploring a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human, and any aspect of your unique, personal, and sacred spirituality. For some, this includes exploring your relationship with the divine, deepening your spiritual identity, or building spiritual practices. For others, it includes exploring spiritual beliefs or values and the degree to which these fit with your personhood. It can involve asking questions, sharing joy, fears, or struggles, getting ‘unstuck’, or creating change in an informed and intentional way.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
