Also, as a non-binary, queer person, I have particular interest in working with clients around the various intersections of LGBTQIA+ identity, spirituality, and religious trauma.
For so many of us, the past several years of pandemic and political unrest have taken a serious toll on our well-being, our mental health, our sense of belonging, and even our faith in humanity itself. In order for us to figure out how to navigate the tension between the world’s brokenness and its wholeness, I believe we first have to learn to navigate that tension within ourselves. As a therapist, I’m privileged to get to journey alongside people who are engaging in that work and to help my clients develop and access whatever tools and strategies will be most effective for them in their unique circumstances.

Seeking out help is an important step toward dealing with the problems that have kept you from thinking, feeling, and relating to others the way you want. I enjoy helping individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing a variety of challenges. My two primary areas of focus and expertise are working with clients who are experiencing problems in their relationships, and those who are going through a transition in their life that is creating stress.

Additionally, my Christian faith is at the foundation of all I do, so I also offer clients an opportunity, if they choose, to bring their spirituality into the therapy space.
I believe that we are all meant to be healed, restored, and whole in spirit, mind, and body. Many of life's hurts and challenges come through relationships and so does our healing. Therapy is a safe space to express emotions, receive guidance in making informed and healthy decisions, and move toward desired goals. I specialize in working with couples struggling with their relationship, communication, infidelity, sexual intimacy concerns, and overall connection. I also have a passion for working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, relational conflict, self-esteem/identity challenges, trauma & major life changes.

My theoretical approach views the counseling process as a journey that can incorporate different modalities, including expressive arts and spirituality.
Have you ever experienced betrayal, a boundary violation, or dealing with the destruction of a toxic relationship? Do you struggle with problematic behaviors that lead to an ongoing shame cycle? When this occurs, we are unsure of next steps, so we isolate or continue the same unwanted behaviors. Through specialized counseling, clients gain the courage to challenge shame, create healthy boundaries, find balance in life, and move towards a healthier identity. Current groups are focused on betrayal, emotionally destructive relationships (family, partner or friend), brain health, and identity and shame- see below for more info

Within my work, focus topics include but are not limited to suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, trauma, and spirituality.
Hiya! I am Dr. Ashley N. Nash; thank you for your visit. The mantra that I mirror in my personal and professional life is to "be the person that I needed when I was younger." As a trauma survivor turned trauma therapist, I enjoy working with teens, young adults, and adults in individual and small-group settings. At any stage of our lives, we can begin to question our identities and how they fit into the rest of the world while remaining true to ourselves. I believe that change is one of the only constant things in the world, and I have a desire to assist others during their changing seasons.

I enjoy working with clients who are inquiring into their spirituality and soul.
Paul Coelho says, “Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.” I support clients on the journey back to themselves. We often put pressure on ourselves to “be” a certain way - so much that life can feel like acting instead of living. This acting can feel draining and lead to increased stress, anxiety and depression. I believe that therapy is a space where you can take off the facade and reconnect with your genuine, whole self - finding freedom and renewed vitality. I invite you to begin your journey.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
