Welcome, thank you for being here! Take a deep breath - you've made it to this moment. Great work! If you are ready to unearth the roots of what's holding you back and ready to peel back the layers of your being and take a deep look inside, then you are in the right place. It would be an honor to be by your side on the journey through growth and healing. Sometimes, we may be disconnected from ourSelf without even knowing it. Please take another deep breath and know that you are not alone in this. My hope is to help you access that space within - your own innate capacity to heal (without long-term medication).

Whether this is your first time in therapy or you're already familiar with it, I'm here to help you tackle whatever you're struggling with. I have a strong passion for the work I do, and will offer a listening ear, feedback, and skills. With both personal and professional experience with mental health issues, my hope is that you're feeling understood. In order for your therapy to feel effective, I find it important to first identify the struggles, followed by devising a plan with short and long term goals. My ideal client has some degree of motivation to work on themselves in therapy, as that willingness goes a long way.

Are you a busy parent feeling stressed by the demands of work and family? Perhaps you're facing the prospect of an empty nest and it is overwhelming. Maybe your mood is easily changeable, or life has become difficult, and you need someone to talk to. I am a seasoned psychotherapist who has accompanied many people on their healing journeys over the past 20 years. I find that mindfulness practices and hypnosis are additional tools that support people’s movement toward empowerment and freedom as they learn to heal and create a lasting sense of well-being.

Mental health is about tending to your needs while also dealing with the ebbs and flows of life. Therapy is not a sign of weakness. On the contrary -- I believe seeking help and learning to grow through the struggles and triumphs of everyday is our lifework and shows great courage!

I have an ear for what you are saying and may not be aware of. Sometimes it is good to have a trained ear listen while you discuss your issues. I have been listening for over 20 years and have heard it all. Listening has made me less judgemental, more compassionate, and my clients tell me, more able to help. I have worked inpatient, outpatient, with all kinds of clients and every diagnosis. I have received special training in EMDR and use it frequently to help resolve trauma.

I believe in the power of therapy and mindfulness meditation. I've been witness to the growth and flourishing of so many people, as they discover and release themselves from age-old blockages and fear. I know the power of releasing the 'inner critic' and the value of discovering 'wise mind.' My psychotherapy home office is a refuge, where you will have the space to look within, and free yourself from whatever inner cognition(s) are holding you back. I promise to bring you the most effective, evidence-based strategies, including advances in neuroscience, to increase your overall wellbeing and whole-heartedness.

Everyone hits a bump in the road from time to time. Maybe you're going through a difficult transition, such as the loss of a job or loved one. Maybe you worry too much...but can't seem to stop. Maybe you struggle with difficult relationships--or spend so much time caring for others that you've neglected yourself. Sometimes we just get stuck, and we aren't sure why. Sharing our concerns with a caring professional can help us find solutions, improve our sense of self and our relationships, provide safety and warmth, and help us find more meaning in our lives.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
