Therapy is a process of discovery and change, which, although often challenging, I believe is always an endeavor worth taking. As I greatly respect one's decision to make this commitment to themselves, I take an active approach in the therapy process and work collaboratively with my clients towards healing and insight. I primarily make use of psychodynamic techniques with a general focus on helping to increase self-awareness, a sense of wellbeing, and a sense of empowerment to achieve desired change. However, it is important to note that treatment goals established by my clients and me are individualized to meet each client's needs.
With adults I have extensive experience in Trauma work (i.e., adult survivors of childhood physical/sexual abuse; rape), work with women/couples struggling with infertility (i.e, difficulty becoming pregnant, miscarriage, recurrent miscarriage), and couples presenting a range of relationship problems. My work with children includes struggles with anxiety and/or parental separation/divorce.
As an interpersonal psychodynamically oriented clinician I tend to think the therapeutic relationship plays an integral role in the potential for discovery and change. Therefore, my work emphasizes the importance of empathy and creating a trusting working alliance where my clients feel safe.
