About

Once you are engaged in a safe, validating and honest therapeutic space, there is tremendous potential for growth. I appreciate the risk you take when you share your struggles and stories. In honoring that risk, I will remind you every step of the way of your power. Pain, distress and discomfort can inform us about the ways we see, move through, and live in the world. I will encourage you to explore these pain points and move forward with a new perspective: more in alignment with your values and goals. I come from a social justice framework and trauma-informed lens, acknowledging how inequity and injustice inform your narrative.
My experience centers around individuals who struggle with identity conflicts, life transitions, depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal urges. I utilize an integrated, eclectic approach that incorporates ACT, CBT, interpersonal therapy, mindfulness. Together we will reflect on the role of your early life experiences in your current behavior.
At Roots & Branches Therapy, we endeavor to serve a diverse client base. We welcome clients from all beliefs and backgrounds; from all racial, ethnic, sexual or gender identities as well as those in monogamous or polyamorous relationships. We strive to balance our client base between sliding scale, in-network, and full fee clients.

Sophie Angelique Desnoyers's Groups

Dialectical Behavior Skills (DBT) Training

DBT was created by Martha Linehan to treat people suffering with Borderline Personality Disorder, which had previously been deemed untreatable, but I find that DBT skills (including Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotional Regulation, and Distress Tolerance) are useful to everyone. Including me! This group is meant to provide supplemental support to clients already in individual therapy. The group will meet for 90 minutes weekly for 16 weeks with 4-8 clients in a group. Clients will receive psychoeducation on the skills, discuss how they utilize them in daily life, and empathize and troubleshoot challenges with one another.

More about this group

Trauma Processing (Rape, DV, or Childhood Abuse)

The purpose of this group is to reduce your symptoms of PTSD and reduce feelings of shame by share your story in a safe space with other survivors. This group is meant for clients who have had at least 3 months of individual therapy and are actively attending. The group will meet for 90 minutes weekly for 8-12 weeks with 4- 6 clients in a group. There is a rigorous screening process for this group to ensure clients are ready for this step and that the environment is safe and supportive.
