Complicated launchings of teenagers and young adults are my specialty. I work with families to identify risk factors, such as ADHD, learning difficulties, anxiety and depression, in their young person that can interfere with successful launching either through college or the work force. With improved self-awareness and self-management skills, these young adults are more able to make their way in the world. Parents are part of the treatment team as the young adult can't do it without you. Identifying launching goals and developing the skills to achieve those goals are critical to the process.
As I have developed approaches to launching these complicated young people, I have shifted my focus to include High School students in need of college readiness skills. It is easier to keep a young person on track than it is to do crisis management after they derail.
At the Tarnow Center, we operate as an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, educational specialists, neurotherapists, biofeedback therapists, and others. We work together on very complicated cases to optimize results. Follow my blog on Complicated Launchings at www.drhavasy.com

This group is for older adolescents, often with neurological issues, who need help to learn social thinking, awareness of self and others, and how to develop relationships. We work on developing skills. Parents meet with us every 6 weeks to reinforce the work.

College Readiness Group

A group for recent high school graduates who plan to go to college but may have risk factors such as ADHD, learning issues, or emotional/social difficulties, that may interfere with their success in college. The group focuses on goals, sustaining motivation, and appreciation of strengths and weaknesses as students head off. Parents work with Dr. Havasy to clarify their expectations for college functioning of their young adult.

Young Adult Self-Management Group

For young adults ages 18 to 30 who have complicated launchings. Often these young adults have gotten off track and out of step with their peers. The groups provide support and accountability to help them to make the necessary changes and develop the skills they need to achieve their goals.
