My name is Sonia Guilfoos and I’m a licensed psychotherapist with a license in clinical/mental health social work. I am Latina and first-generation Mexican American. I specialize in brain spotting, cognitive behavioral therapy, and intergenerational trauma, and I use a variety of approaches to help my patients meet their goals. I am well versed in 12-step recovery work, shadow work, and inner child healing. I am very comfortable treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, intergenerational trauma, low self-worth, and addictions. Currently, I prefer working with adults, not couples.
I am eclectic in my approach to therapy using a variety of interventions as my patients and I see the best fit for them. I often naturally use cognitive behavioral therapy, and I am big on empowering my patients. I have found brainspotting to be a very effective approach to healing trauma in a much shorter time than regular talk therapy.
I am very warm and nurturing as this creates a safe environment where my patients feel comfortable being themselves. I have a good balance of professionalism and the ability to be authentically me in session, which sometimes includes being open, real, laughing, and being transparent.
