My approach is informed by my training in Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
I currently practice individual therapy with adults (18 years old and up) from our BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and Spanish-speaking communities, as well as those experiencing complex PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I understand that everyone has unique needs and experiences, and I am committed to creating an approach that best fits my client's needs. As a therapist, I am passionate about exploring the impact of oppression and inequality on mental health. I aim to take a holistic approach where I include both the mind and body.

The healing process of therapy can reduce suffering & facilitate further discovery of one's authentic self. Developing self-awareness, digging to the roots of personal problems, making lasting & powerful changes, and finding meaning & richness in your life is a sacred and empowering process that I am so honoured to be a part of. The approach I use is effective for depression, anxiety, issues of trauma and abuse, relationship concerns, and connection with yourself and others.

I work with young adults, families, and couples helping them to shed light on themselves and the systems of which they are a part. I have worked predominately with clients experiencing symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar, addictive disorders, and personality disorders. I have a background in wilderness therapy and experiential treatment and love to introduce creative, alternative modes of expression to my clients, including yoga movement, narrative, and outdoor based therapies (walk and talk). By the end of our first session, most of my clients feel relieved and hopeful for their next steps.

In our work together I use a mind body approach---meaning traditional talk therapy through a Psychodynamic lens, in addition to the felt-sense of the body or a Somatic/Nervous System approach---inviting a greater awareness of self and our responses.
Have you struggled with feeling good about yourself? How does your perception of yourself impact your life? Each of us have lived experiences that leave imprints on our lives sometimes impacting our ability to trust, and connect with ourselves and those around us. I aim to foster a space in therapy that invites room for curiosity, safety, and also bravery in order to encourage---growth, self-discovery and healing. I work with both young adults and adults who are experiencing never feeling enough, or have experienced: trauma, self-harming behaviors, eating disorders, body perception issues, perfectionism and negative self-perception.

I utilize Internal Family Systems and somatic approaches, and DBT/CBT skills.
Are you struggling to connect with your true self? Do the beliefs you have about yourself affect your relationships? It can be challenging to embrace your core identity, and unpack the beliefs we hold about ourselves. Together we can learn to identify the ways in which you have protected yourself through relational patterns and coping mechanisms and create space to find who you really are outside of a history that may have left you feeling wounded, or not enough. As your therapist, I strive to create a relationship that provides the security needed to navigate these challenges, enabling you to find safety within yourself and others.

I primarily use EMDR as well as somatic and mindfulness techniques to change the way the past is impacting your present.
Life is challenging and there are so many things that can make it difficult to enjoy yourself, be the person you want to be, and sometimes just get by in this fast-paced culture that is changing often. If one of the things making life difficult for you is trauma you aren't alone. Trauma has a huge impact on many areas of life but one of the most painful can be relationships. It can impact our ability to feel connected and understood, sometimes even leading us to act in ways that are damaging to our relationships. I enjoy helping people who want to address trauma and ways it is impacting their everyday life.

I am committed to working with clients to maximize freedom from difficult somatic and emotional experiences, and have found these interventions to be extremely effective toward that end.
Our hearts long for authentic connection to ourselves and others - and the sense of aliveness that results from being truly ourselves as we relate. Sometimes, however, reactive patterns arise and displace our competent adult functioning with unregulated emotional states such as anxiety, anger, insecurity, or depression. Often there is no context or overt memory associated with such experiences, which are thought to have their roots in insufficient neural organization. Our neural organization, as it turns out, can adapt and change, giving us access to more and more emotional freedom and contentment.

I specialize in somatic or body-based therapy techniques where physical awareness is used as the starting point of resolving the issues you come to therapy with.
If traumatic incidents from your past have limited what you can do and who you wish to be, I can help restore you to a happier and healthier baseline. If substance use has become one of the few ways to enjoy life and to feel ok, I can help with this too. My work with clients is influenced by an understanding of neurobiology and stress physiology. This means care provided to you will be effective and properly sequenced.

My therapeutic style is one of warmth and attunement. I provide a safe space for people to explore their inner world, heal past wounds, and discover ways to live with self-compassion and authenticity. I specialize in Somatic Psychotherapy and utilize an eclectic, person-centered approach because I believe effective therapy needs to be both individualized and collaborative. Somatic-focused EMDR and Gestalt Therapy allow for greater awareness of our full selves, thus integrating the mind and body.
Psychotherapy is a way to learn more about ourselves, find options for change, and develop skills for managing difficult situations and emotions. While the "story" of pain is important, I offer clients the opportunity to better understand the roots of distress, ways in which bodies hold emotional pain, and clear options for enhancing natural resilience. For over a decade, I have helped clients manage anxiety and depression and recover from addiction and trauma. I work with LGBT clients around trauma and discrimination. With training in EMDR, Gestalt Therapy, and CBT, I offer a variety of therapies based on individual need.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
