Do you find yourself in bed with your partner yet at a loss as to how to bridge the gap between you? For way too many of us, sex causes stress, disconnection, and even physical pain. The silence and misunderstandings that accompany this spiral into heartache, loneliness, and shame. If you are feeling frustrated and don’t know what else to do, trust that working with me may actually get you the results you’ve been unable to achieve on your own. My practice as an AASECT certified sex therapist is to motivate couples and individuals with hope and positive action. The style of my work is non-judgmental, and solution-focused.

As a therapist, I aim to create a space where clients have the opportunity to be vulnerable, grow, and feel empowered while working toward their life goals and developing new skill sets. Thoughts and emotions can be so powerful, but they can lead us to feeling stuck, lost, confused, dread, or even exhausted. We isolate, panic, feel unseen, and feel unheard, and become irritated because we don’t have the words. If this is something you can relate to, my name is Lauren and welcome to my page. I am so excited you have decided to invest in yourself!

As Carl Jung said, "I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become. Know that choice is available. The question is; where am I choosing from? Is it the past that directs my life or have I crossed the bridge from the past to stand in the present moment where choice and freedom prevail. "You're not alone." Empathy is a powerful connection between us all. Empathy is connecting with emotions to another with a sense of knowing what that person is feeling. Can you connect with your own feelings and emotions to realize the experience of being alive? Two questions to ponder: Who have you been this year?

Have YOU ever..... 1) Struggled with slowing down, being present and grounded? 2) Been told “who to be, what to do, how to act?” 3) Found it difficult to listen or trust your own intuition? I have also been there. And, when all of the above began pulling me further out of alignment, I made a choice that I no longer wanted to live in a world where my truth and my voice were not being seen, heard, valued, or respected. With me in YOUR corner, you’ll be able to let go of any resistance, build a deeper understanding of your sense of self, rediscover who you are underneath it all, and learn how to relax and release any fears.

Trauma-informed, somatic-centered practices such as Somatic Experiencing (SE) and EMDR form another facet.
I have the opportunity after years in the mental health field to dedicate more time to doing what I love to do most —help people discover insights and tools for psychological well-being. I've been fortunate to witness transformations in the lives of those I've had the privilege to assist with a treatment strategy that combines three distinct pathways to psychological wellness. Starting with traditional psychodynamic techniques, we understand the "what" and "why" of your experiences. Feeling validated serves as a foundation for healing.

I use a unique, dynamic approach to traditional talk therapy informed by Gestalt theory and guided by somatic awareness, honest inquiry and deep compassion.
I believe in our capacity to challenge and navigate away from unhealthy patterns. I support my clients in cultivating awareness and guide them in the healing process by drawing on innate strengths and resilience. I encourage clients to think of human beings as organisms, of body and of mind, that live in relationship with others and with our environment. As such, growth is our natural state. We are meant to grow, to act fluidly and adapt creatively throughout our lives and we suffer when that process is blocked or interrupted. However, our suffering can provide an opportunity to grow in new and exciting ways.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
