Over the past couple of years I have focused my continuing education on trauma-trained care, including Attachment and Somatic Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
Are you struggling with emotional distress? Do you often feel weighed down by feelings of anxiety? Do you find yourself returning to comfortable, although detrimental ways of dealing with stress, relationships, or disturbing experiences? Come talk to me, and we can work together on revealing underlying causes of dysfunction and building up your resources to overcome adversity. I believe in a collaborative approach where the client controls the pace of treatment and my role is to promote curiosity and guide the client to connect with inner strengths.

I am a somatic psychotherapist trained in EMDR treatment.
As a therapist, I have helped many people achieve greater peace of mind, decrease feelings of stress, and develop more self-compassion. Life is not always easy. In fact, it can feel quite overwhelming when you don't know where to go or who to turn to for help. Maybe you feel like your past is weighing you down and you can't move forward because of unresolved problems. Regardless, I welcome you to take one step by giving me a call today. Together we will figure out the rest of the journey at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I offer a gentle somatic and depth-oriented approach backed by neuroscience.
What would it be like if you did not have to be good? If you don't have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, apologizing? I see you, tender heart. You're anxious... and exhausted. And can we talk about the off-brand crankiness you feel so guilty about? I know you wish you weren’t, but you’re sensitive. Your superpower? You can tell with stunning accuracy what anyone around you is feeling and make sense of why they do what they do. This makes you great in a crisis and a deft caregiver. But you can’t turn it off, so you struggle to know what your own needs and boundaries are, let alone meet them.

People come to see me when they are experiencing anxiety, aging-related issues (change at home in accepting help or moving into an assisted living facility, multiple medical conditions, limited mobility, or upcoming retirement), and daily stress. Sometimes it is hard to know where to start. Especially when life takes some unexpected turns. To me, it is important that you never feel judged, no matter how your feelings may feel to you. Together we can find a way to improve your quality of life, get you back on track, or discover a new narrative. I view therapy as a collaborative and empowering process.

Life can be difficult. There’s no denying this. And, at times, life can seem even more difficult. Have you been feeling sad, stressed, worried, confused, frustrated, angry, or at a bit of a loss? Perhaps you’ve experienced, or are facing, a transition in life (e.g., a break-up, divorce, loss of a loved one, medical challenge, retirement, engagement, marriage, etc.) that is leaving you feeling any number of ways. Or maybe you're feeling a certain way and don't know why. If so, you're likely looking to find some peace, clarity, understanding, and support so you can live a happier, healthier, and more authentic life.

Have YOU ever..... 1) Struggled with slowing down, being present and grounded? 2) Been told “who to be, what to do, how to act?” 3) Found it difficult to listen or trust your own intuition? I have also been there. And, when all of the above began pulling me further out of alignment, I made a choice that I no longer wanted to live in a world where my truth and my voice were not being seen, heard, valued, or respected. With me in YOUR corner, you’ll be able to let go of any resistance, build a deeper understanding of your sense of self, rediscover who you are underneath it all, and learn how to relax and release any fears.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
