As a certified trauma therapist, my practice focuses on grief and loss and complex/attachment trauma, utilizing a client centered/strengths based approach, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), and mindfulness, with an attachment and expressive/somatic focus.
Accepting new clients: In-person and virtual. The relationship between therapist and client is one that is unique, vulnerable and brave. It is built on attunement, trust, and compassion in a nonjudgmental and warm space. My practice is deeply rooted in meeting each of my clients where they are on their journey, empowering them to utilize their voice and work on treatment goals that are important to them. Therapy looks different for everyone, and I am here to help sit alongside this journey with you, when you are ready.

How might your life be different if there was a place for you to reflect and heal . . . a time set aside to connect with your inner wisdom and strength . . . a person there to offer guidance and support as you sorted through life's tough stuff and began to heal what hurts . . . a place where you might create the life you most want to live? I bring a creative and spiritual approach to counseling and life journey mentoring. I speak plainly and with compassion. I help you recognize the patterns of thoughts and behaviors that have shaped your life thus far.

I tend to work from a variety of perspectives based in attachment theory, Polyvagal Theory, the Structural Dissociation model, parts work/IFS, somatic modalities, mindfulness and self compassion.
It can be a powerful time for trauma work when starting a family of your own. Often my clients are young adults and new parents who are highly self critical to avoid being with messiness and what cannot be controlled. They use alcohol, substances, food, exercise, work/ busyness or caretaking to manage or stay away from feelings. Often they expect the worst and prepare to self protect and can be overly focused on the people around them. My clients share about anxiety or depression since childhood or have complicated family of origin dynamics.

Somatic and Sex Therapist. Now, what I’m about to share with you might be uncomfortable to read. If it is, then know this ... you did not find us by accident. This was a message you needed. You see, talking to your partner about your sexual relationship isn’t easy. You might feel like no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to connect – unaware of what gets them going and what turns them off. You may be unsatisfied with the type of intimacy you’re having but don’t know how to bring it up. Now, here’s the thing...you are not alone.

I do this through cognitive, somatic & expressive.
We Are Now Accepting New Clients!- Welcome! Here's to taking the time to seek out something to benefit you today. The fact that you are here, regardless of whether or not you choose to begin, continue, or pause your therapy journey already informs us greatly about your strengths. Finding someone you trust to begin sharing your story with may seem like an overwhelming task in the midst of an already overwhelming situation. You have likely long ago developed a series of creative coping skills, whether truly helpful or not, to pull you through what you have already survived. Maybe they're not working as well as they used to anymore.

After working for over 30 years with individuals across all stages of the life span, I have come to believe that we are all wired for health in our relationships with self and others. In keeping with this premise, I employ a collaborative therapeutic style marked by warmth, empathy and respect. My therapeutic approach draws heavily from attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, emotion focused therapy, somatic work and mindfulness. This integration combines current psychological knowledge and techniques with ancient wisdom in order to support clients as they move more fully into health.

In session, we will use principles from Transpersonal Psychology, meditation + mindfulness, somatic practices, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Does it ever feel like it's all too much? I can help you or your child move from overwhelm and inertia to navigating life with confidence, ease, and joy. I help you see your innate wisdom so that you can create goals, remember dreams, and find a deep, abiding sense of contentment within yourself. Many clients I work with were told they were "too sensitive" or "overdramatic" as a child. I am skilled at guiding you reconnect with younger parts of yourself and shift unhelpful core beliefs. My areas of expertise include anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and existential dread. I am licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

We're living through such stressful times, it can be hard to function our best. As our coping skills are stretched thin, struggles once successfully dealt with may become stronger than we can manage. Relationship issues can intensify as tending to our own discomfort takes more energy, leaving less to offer our partner. On top of all this, navigating the mental health world to find a therapist who "gets you" is a chore unto itself! I'm happy to help, if you feel we might be a good fit. I use a combination of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic work (TRM) to help empower, heal, and bring you more fully back to yourself.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
