I use trauma-informed therapy, Somatic, CBT, DBT, attachment-based methods (EFIT), Bowen, family systems, structural, and solution-focused therapy.
The process of finding a therapist can be daunting, but I believe it is a sign of courage and strength to seek help for lasting personal growth and for stronger relationships. My overall perspective about therapy is to show acceptance, compassion and care to all clients; to build safe, warm, trustworthy, and collaborative therapeutic relationships; to apply evidence-based and culturally-competent therapeutic concepts and skills to address clients’ specific needs; and to build upon client’s strength for change. I can speak both English and Mandarin. I provide immigration psychological evaluations. I am licensed in Maryland and D.C.

Embarking on a therapeutic journey requires courage, and I commend you for taking this step in service toward your growth and healing. My approach as a mindfulness-based Intern Therapist is grounded in a holistic philosophy and oriented in Gestalt and Person-Centered therapies. My work lies in the gap between traditional psychotherapy and spiritual transformation. I aim to bridge the conceptual foundations underpinning the divide between psychology and spirituality by synthesizing authentic whole-person contact with contemplative practices, somatic psychotherapies, and scientifically proven mindfulness-based modalities.

This includes evidenced based mind/body healing modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Processing, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Polyvagal Theory.
The people I work with want to change the way they are feeling and relating to others. They struggle to cope with triggers, emotions or experiences day to day, and tend to judge themselves for this and its impact on their lives. Whether acute or chronic trauma, relationship issues or emotional challenges, I work with clients to process physical, emotional and mental symptoms that cause them to feel stuck, isolated and unworthy of healthy connections. Building on your strengths, we will work together towards an outcome of added joy, aliveness and connection to self and others.

My work integrates my experience as an Advanced Imago Therapist, EMDR therapist, training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, HeartMath, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Coaching and Emotional Freedom Technique.
I have been helping individuals and couples transform their lives for over 25 years. My work is holistic. We target the root causes of your distress rather than skimming the surface level of symptoms. Only when root causes are addressed can symptoms dissolve. We dive deeply into the core issues that are keeping you stuck, disconnected and dissatisfied in your life and relationships. The process is efficient, effective, respectful, safe and profound. My ideal clients are people who are passionate about healing and releasing patterns that no longer serve them.

Contrary to popular belief, growth and change can be an enjoyable process! Together we will partner to identify what you want to create in this next chapter of your life and then move through a process to identify and transform any old limiting patterns and beliefs that may be in the way. I have found a somatic (working at the head, heart, and body level) and compassionate approach to be most impactful for clients in creating lasting beneficial changes in their lives.

I use a combination of techniques catered to each client’s specific needs, which sometimes includes play therapy, mindfulness, CBT, psychoeducation and somatic therapy (understanding the relationship between mind and body).
Asking for help can sometimes feel overwhelming. As a client-centered and strengths-based clinician, it is my goal to make that process feel comfortable and safe. I believe that the client is the expert and I am a resource to help guide and process challenging life experiences and uncover new skills to manage those stressors. I especially enjoy working with children, adolescents, and young adults to overcome anxiety while promoting positive self-esteem.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
