I specialize in trauma-informed care and somatic therapy.
Ideally, I'd treat clients with a trauma history. Someone with a mixture of short and long term trauma. My ideal client is eager to learn and wants to find a way to become their own safe space. Someone who wants to learn how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, find out their triggers, and treat themselves with patience.

Somatic and Sex Therapist. Now, what I’m about to share with you might be uncomfortable to read. If it is, then know this...you did not find us by accident. This was a message you needed. You see, talking to your partner about your sexual relationship isn’t easy. You might feel like no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to connect – unaware of what gets them going and what turns them off. You may be unsatisfied with the type of intimacy you’re having but don’t know how to bring it up. Now, here’s the thing...you are not alone.

I use trauma-informed therapy, Somatic, CBT, DBT, attachment-based methods (EFIT), Bowen, family systems, structural, and solution-focused therapy.
The process of finding a therapist can be daunting, but I believe it is a sign of courage and strength to seek help for lasting personal growth and for stronger relationships. My overall perspective about therapy is to show acceptance, compassion and care to all clients; to build safe, warm, trustworthy, and collaborative therapeutic relationships; to apply evidence-based and culturally-competent therapeutic concepts and skills to address clients’ specific needs; and to build upon client’s strength for change. I can speak both English and Mandarin. I provide immigration psychological evaluations. I am licensed in Maryland and D.C.

In addition to psychodynamically oriented talk therapy, I integrate mindfulness, trauma informed approaches, somatic imagery, and EMDR, all depending on your individual needs.
There are times that you might feel stuck in patterns that make life feel unsatisfying and empty. Maybe you feel depressed, anxious or in chronic pain. You may be negotiating a relationship or trying to adjust to a new job. Psychotherapy allows you the space to understand how your past and present intersect and what gets in the way of living life to your fullest while also helping you to tap into your inner resources. My approach is collaborative, thus giving you the space to reflect carefully. I work with you to develop better coping skills and help you to understand & manage complex feelings of anxiety or sadness.

I am a body psychotherapist and use a variety of somatic and traditional approaches, but first and foremost, I believe you guide our work.
Satisfaction, joy and self-awareness are key elements to a fulfilling life. Although that seems easier said than done, I believe that we can find these elements with encouraging support and guidance. I am a committed, compassionate therapist who is ready to help you uncover your inner strengths to make the changes you want and live a more gratifying life. I believe that we all take a journey to find ourselves, but it becomes even more difficult when we are burdened by depression, addiction and/or trauma. Finding the right fit can help us get through difficult times, creating positive relationship is paramount to our happiness.

I have an eclectic approach to healing that utilizes dialectal behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, Jungian theory, mindfulness, somatic education and movement therapy, yoga and psychodynamic theory.
When human beings experience trauma or constant stress it is normal for them to feel like their lives are beginning to unravel. Reaching out for support is the first step to healing. I am a therapist who believes that we all possess innate strengths that can lead us to the life we envision. My goal as your therapist is to help build the toolkit that will enable you to get unstuck, conquer the overwhelm, find your voice and move forward toward your vision for a more vibrant future.

Somatic approaches may be used in conjunction to talk therapy.
My intention is for you to feel safe bringing all parts of yourself into our sessions. All of you - all feelings, all identities - are welcome. Only in a relationship of relative safety & non-judgement can growth happen. I maintain that YOU are the expert on you and as such I take a client-centered, collaborative, and relational approach to therapy. I will use our relationship, my experience, and YOUR insight & self-knowing, as well as appropriate tools & techniques. I will ask about your goals, challenges, strengths, and what has worked for you in the past. Your care will be as individual as you are.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
