I provide a safe environment for clients to process their issues. I believe that psychotherapy is more than talk therapy. I am excited about the new research and treatments that focus on mind and body (somatic memories). I have an integrative approach to therapy. I work best with complex trauma (emotional and physical, including childhood neglect) and resulting anxiety and depression. I work well with grief related issues (complicated grief) and problems that arise from chronic illnesses.

Our work together will draw on an eclectic array of therapeutic techniques, including somatic and mindfulness-based therapies.
The call towards deepening our self-awareness and becoming more embodied in our life takes many forms. Whether it's the end of a relationship, developmental trauma, existential questioning, climate anxiety, or any other unique combination of stressors, I believe that radical healing is possible. My aspiration is to support you in moving towards a deeper sense of intimacy and connection with both your inner world and the world around you. Rather than solely focusing on your diagnosis, we will collaborate to create a sense of an inner compass that you can utilize to build a life that feels alive and aligned with your values.

I support clients who identify as sensitive, empathic, intuitive or creative. With a decade of experience providing trauma-focused support, I weave together talk therapy with somatic (body-focused) techniques, energy psychology, therapeutic meditation and energy therapies including reiki and shamanism. My approach supports the holistic self by meeting body, mind, emotion, energy and soul. We all experience ebbs and flows in life, times of thriving and times of struggle. Times of struggle can often manifest as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, or feeling disconnected from the true self.

I utilize an interdisciplinary approach as a modality of treatment that includes somatic healing, meditation, psychological first aid/stress management and CBT Techniques.
Many encounters in life can leave an impression on us that lasts a lifetime. The power to heal lies within us as we recondition the body to hold and receive love.

I believe that we can get stuck in the mire of hopelessness when we feel overwhelmed, or when our circumstances are more than we can handle. If you struggle with navigating your emotions, finding meaning/purpose, overcoming difficult or painful circumstances of the past (flashbacks, avoidance, fear, triggers) or even the present (arguments, emotional angst, numbness, irritation, anxiety, worry, hypervigilance), I want to support you. I specialize in anxiety; depression; eating disorders; relational issues; sex therapy and education, as well as helping folks work through general/sexual trauma using somatic or body-centered methods.

My therapeutic approach uses dialectical behavior therapy & somatic experiencing to create a blend to foster healing.
New openings! We all encounter moments that challenge our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. These experiences often leave us feeling overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, and/or we find ourselves us in avoidance. In your therapeutic journey, we’ll focus on the power of incremental and gentle adjustments. It’s the understanding that small changes in perception, behavior, or self-awareness can catalyze significant transformation. Like the smallest pebble creating ripples across a pond, we’ll explore subtle difference bringing about the most meaningful impact.

Every now and then life has a way of hitting us hard. I believe that when individuals enter counseling they are feeling gridlocked in their current situation and need assistance navigating their way out of the storms. I see counseling as a process by which I guide my client in exploration and identification of their needs. Through cognitive and somatic techniques I help raise clients' awareness of ineffective behaviors, toxic cycles, and distorted thinking patterns that may be standing in the way of the changes they desire in life. I believe that transformation begins when we slow down, tune into our bodies, and honor what comes up.

Unlike talk therapy, which primarily engages the mind, somatic work recognizes that our emotions are not intellectual constructs—they're deeply rooted in the body.
Are you tired of feeling stuck in patterns of stress, overwhelm, or anxiety? Do you feel like you have trauma or emotions stuck in your body? Do you long for a deeper sense of connection with yourself and others? Sleep issues? Do you feel numb like you are just going through the motions? Stuck in fight, fight or freeze? Have you experienced traditional talk therapy but feels like something is missing? If any of these sound like you, you've come to the right place. You can also check out my website for more info: wellnesssomaticcenter.com

Abby offers diverse body-based therapy modalities (IFS, DBT, Narrative, Play, Child Parent Psychotherapy, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Psychedelic Treatment).
Abby prioritizes cultivating a love ethic in both personal and professional spheres, guided by psychiatrist M. Scott Peck's definition of love as, 'the will to extend oneself for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth.' Within her practice, a deliberate choice is made to foster holistic well-being. Central to Abby's philosophy is the concept of empathy, extending compassion beyond individual experiences to advocate for justice and equity. Through these principles, Abby creates a therapeutic environment where individuals find solace, healing, and empowerment.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
