I help people heal from emotional wounds; cultivate resiliency; and promote mental wellness. I'm availaable at Anam Cara Counseling and horse farm in the peaceful countryside of Rolling Prairie/La Porte. I provide traditional talk therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and/or Trauma-Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. This is a powerful and highly effective form of therapy where you will interact with horses for personal insight and behavior change. There is no riding involved; and no horse experience is needed.

It can be a daunting task to find a therapist, let alone a therapist you can connect with. I commend those who have taken these challenging first steps in their mental health journey and who are ready to face their challenges with a trusted professional. My style is active with gentle direction, and I encourage self-compassion to my clients to promote healing. I feel that the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of treatment, and I encourage openness throughout our sessions together. I work best with a client who is open to homework outside of session and who is looking to make meaning out of their experience.

I utilize mindfulness skills, self-compassion, attachment theory, and a person-centered lens applied through the framework of Emotionally Focused Therapy as well incorporating EMDR and Somatic practices to empower my clients to learn and embrace self-acceptance as they heal.
Do you struggle to understand yourself? Do you struggle to move through healthy conflict resolution with your partner? As your therapist, I can help you with these issues and attend to any early attachment issues that may be impacting you. You will learn how to work through limiting negative beliefs and how your past experiences impact you today. My clients often seek therapy because they want to uncover the meanings behind their emotions; together, we can often uncover the meaning behind these emotions by better understanding past traumas encountered.

I am certified in EMDR, I have a background in working with disordered eating behaviors, I am a sex informed therapist, I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and mindfulness.
I love working with clients who are curious about themselves. Anxiety, depression, perfectionism, spirituality, relationship issues and self acceptance are the areas I work with most frequently. I see adolescants through adulthood. Life has many transitions, twists and turns. I enjoying being part of the process as clients begin to connect pieces of life and reframe the negative narratives they once believed into empowerment and strength.

I have supplemented my traditional psychotherapy education with additional training in body-centered psychotherapy, including Somatic Experiencing and Somatic Experiencing Touch.
I am offering both virtual and in-person counseling services. I specialize in treating the issues that arise from unresolved trauma, difficult early life experiences, and perinatal trauma, anxiety and mood disorders. My goal is to support and empower my clients by using an integrative and collaborative stance, incorporating my background in psychodynamic psychotherapy with body-centered and mindfulness-based techniques. It is my hope that by equipping my clients with the skills to develop their own self-awareness, self-compassion, clarity, and peace, they can go on to experience more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

The body is integral to healing, so I also incorporate a "bottom-up" approach with somatic bodywork.
My ideal client is blunt, transparent, intelligent, and open-minded. A person willing to "get real" and discuss gritty topics. I work best with people who want to really know themselves so they can overcome the obstacles that interfere with their goals.

I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and skills in DBT, EMDR, and somatic experiencing therapy.
I have always had a passion for working with underserved populations and those in need. Most of my experience has been with providing therapy to children and adults who have experienced trauma, as well as those who have struggled with anxiety and addictions. I aim to create trusting and authentic partnerships between myself and clients on their journey to healing. I strive to utilize an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approach to create a safe space for all clients to learn, grow, and embrace healthy connection, while acknowledging the impacts of environment and culture.

Waitlist for new clients
C.G. Jung wrote, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate." I am interested in helping people bring their unconscious (traumas, memories, trapped emotions, younger selves, stuck energy) safely into conscious awareness so these parts can be unburdened and healed. There are many ways to do this: EMDR, ego state/IFS, breath work, somatic therapy, meditation, among others. I love shadow work and helping clients heal at the deepest level. I typically have a waitlist, but the length of expected wait time varies from time to time.

I also utilize an eclectic blend of trauma-informed modalities including Parts Work, Emotion-Focused, and Somatic Therapy to help individuals rebuild a connection back to their bodies, emotions, and minds in an integrated way.
My therapy space is designed to help clients explore, notice, and align with their needs and values, through further processing of internal and external experiences. The ideal client is on a journey to better understand self, others, and the world around them. Maybe they have some past trauma impacting functioning, or maybe the current season feels really hard and overwhelming. We offer deep curiosity about what healing looks like moving forward in life. They are open to feedback and willing to trust the process and work to further understand what resources and tools might be open to helping them cultivate the life they want.

Over the years and after receiving thousands of initial calls and emails from clients, it is clear that many are unsure of what they need or where to go. We find great pleasure in helping clients navigate this process. As a group practice we are able to provide services for a variety of needs: anxiety, addictions, pain management, depression, relationship issues, psychological testing, individual, life transitions and even helping clients who just want to live their best life! We stand out in our efforts to make this process as smooth as possible. Many providers boast about their training in a particular treatment approach (and this is important) but research suggests that the interventions are only part of the story. The fit between client and clinician, the wellbeing of the clinician, the ease of access and the experience of the treatment process matter as much, and sometimes more, than the particular treatment model used. Pillars of Wellness was founded with the hope of ensuring an ideal client-clinician fit and providing both clients and clinicians with a positive experience. We let our clinicians excel at their craft by giving them the space to create their ideal practice.

NOTE: Limited availability for daytime hours. Waitlist for evenings. Do you sometimes feel like your nervous system is failing you? Do you have emotional (or physical) symptoms that you suspect are rooted in some kind of shock, ongoing conflict, or trauma? Do you feel like you are constantly in "fight or flight" mode and wonder if you will ever be able to truly rest? Many of my clients have sought help from MDs, and even alternative health practitioners, only to discover the source of their pain and exhaustion was untreated trauma. But I would love to tell you, there is hope: there is treatment for shock and trauma.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
