I utilize breathwork, somatic exploration, creative inquiry, nonviolent communication, and healing shame to empower you with self awareness, compassion and tools for growth.
The word “heal” comes from “to make whole.” Psychotherapy, more aptly psyche-therapy, is a sacred process of tending to the soul wound and waking more fully to one’s aliveness and inherent wholeness. I am deeply passionate about supporting you in healing the fragmented and disowned parts of self that hinder you from living a life of meaningful connections, purposeful self-agency and joy. We work collaboratively to creatively transform unconscious and limiting belief structures, access your resiliencies, welcome emerging truths, skillfully navigate adversity with new tools, and integrate insights for profound and evolving change.

I utilize traditional talk therapy as well as play, art, and somatic therapies.
Finding safety and the conditions in which to explore all aspects of your experience are vital components in the therapeutic process. The introduction of art, play, and somatic therapies may provide additional ways to bring creativity to the exploration of the material at hand. I work with children and adults and I specialize in exploring and reconnecting to one's core self. Trauma, illness, and anxiety can disrupt this essential connection - it can be regained.

The issues that bring us to therapy serve as openings to our true nature, and as bridges to self-compassion. When we discover or remember who we are beyond our suffering, and attend to the authentic being that has been neglected in the process, healing can begin to happen.

We are in the midst of uncertain and trying times. Some of the feelings you are likely experiencing are fear, grief, frustration, confusion, isolation, and anxiety. The global trauma of the Coronavirus may be causing remnants of any previous trauma to resurface. It may also be rocking your sense of security and posing questions of life purpose and direction. And it is most assuredly adding to individual or family stress.

I believe that the soul has an innate drive toward healing. We each have the capacity to heal ourselves if we can slow down enough to notice what is asking for our attention. I approach therapy as a weekly collaborative ritual in which clients can become more skilled at listening and giving voice to their inner knowing. Weaving together tools from expressive arts, somatic experiencing, and trauma-informed relational psychotherapy, I offer an integrated, whole-person approach in which we work as a team to uncover your intuitive guidance and learn how to tap in to the wisdom of your higher self.

I offer somatic and relational depth psychotherapy to adults, elders, couples, and children.
All life is a relationship. From our very first moments and onward, what happens in relationship teaches us about how to be in the world. We continually form certain core beliefs, ways of thinking, patterns of tension, and ways of moving our body that can be both healthy and limiting. Trauma, abuse, neglect, and other wounding contribute to how we form our relationship with the world and with ourselves. All of our past experiences have an impact on our present experience. Our day to day life can then be full of a sense of meaninglessness, emotional and physical pain, chronic anxiety, mistrust, or general unease.

My foundation is grounded upon Systems Theory, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Theory, Somatic/Polyvagal Theory, and Mindfulness.
To live is to feel pain in its various expressions. Our relationships with our family systems are often the blueprint by which we respond to the experience. Certain responses can result in experiences of depression, anxiety, or the habitual urge to numb ourselves. The ability to experience, hold space for, and then release our pain is the path to healing; where your heart and mind stop fighting and arrive together finding acceptance, peace, and understanding. "The climb might be tough and challenging, but the view is worth it. There is a purpose for that pain; you just can’t always see it right away." – Victoria Arlen.

It may involve somatic based work, art, storytelling and other modalities which will give us an opportunity to safely delve into exploring your internal world.
We are currently surviving, learning to navigate our lives during a health crisis. With such a fast pace, I deeply believe therapy provides us the container to check in with ourselves and find that moment to catch up. I invite you to give yourself the gift of three deep breaths - inhale deeply and exhale slowly letting something go repeat another two times. No matter what brings you into therapy, I aim to create a safe space alongside you. Every person is an expert on their own lives and I am here to simply help as WE discover and learn the tools to live a life that feels most authentic to YOU.

Individual Somatic Psychotherapy: While I incorporate a variety of modalities into my work as a somatic psychotherapist, I tend to focus on present-moment states of being. This means that I pay close attention to what’s happening in the room, in your body, and between you and me, during our sessions. You may be curious and yet hesitant; hopeful and yet afraid. I help you embody the resilience you need to become the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
