Are you asking, How can I find love? or, What is missing in my relationships? Are you stuck in complaining and blaming, or avoiding and withholding? Are you noticing your relationship struggles make you feel lonelier rather than more open to each other? I provide an environment of safety where you may explore how you are stuck and how your persistent conflicts spoil your potential for intimacy. Tracking the repetitive patterns of communication, and the stories which confirm your most negative beliefs, I will strengthen your awareness to the influences that affect whether you keep repeating old patterns or open to real change.

I support my clients in three key areas: (1) effectively navigating career and workplace challenges; (2) improving their confidence and self-esteem; and (3) enhancing their relationships. As both a therapist and executive coach for 20+ years, I've intensively studied many approaches to psychotherapy and human development to be as helpful and effective as I can. Which of these approaches we'd use will depend on your unique needs and what we decide together best fits for you. I’m focused on significant progress in the short term and even more change and development over time. My approach overall is warm, accepting and personal.

You’re a driven person but your personal or romantic relationships seem to be a struggle. Why is it sometimes easier to meet your professional needs and not your personal needs? You might struggle with vulnerability or feel confused about your relationship. I specialize in helping people create better relationships and clear obstacles to those relationships.

Do you feel like you aren't good enough? Do you struggle with issues of self esteem or self worth? Do you want to explore mind-body connection & the way stress or emotional pain lives in our bodies? If these are themes for you or in your relationships, then perhaps we might work well together. I center my work around self compassion. Only from a place of self kindness can we feel grounded within ourselves to develop a compassionate relationship with others around us. I use mindfulness and somatic body oriented work in order to help us connect deeper with our self, our inner knowing and to be able to cultivate trust with ourselves.

What if YOU are not the problem? You've been told—or felt—that you're "too much" (too needy, too picky, too loud, too sensitive, etc.), or that you're "not reaching your potential." You feel stuck– watching yourself repeat patterns &/or struggling against yourself and the world; the life you long for seeming out of reach. Maybe you're unclear what you want, how you feel, or even who you are. Maybe you know, but can't seem to live it; you're trying to figure out how to actually be yourself in this world. Perhaps you've wondered if you have chronic depression, anxiety, ADHD or autism; or maybe you just know you need some help.

Do you want to celebrate your truth...and often feel all alone? Are you a creator, a pirate, a free-thinker, a tinkerer, an explorer, a craftsman, a heretic, maybe even a legend...and often feel too much or not enough? Did you come here to live out loud...and often feel misunderstood? Do you walk through fire for your values...and often feel unvalued? Do you know that this world needs you...and often wonder if the world knows this too? You are just right, just as you are, right now...and would you also appreciate some support moving forward?

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
