As a somatic & IFS informed therapist, I teach practical skills to help you face & release trapped stress & emotions from your body, so you can begin to love all parts of yourself.
I believe the ability to heal already exists in you, waiting to be uncovered from beneath past protective patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe you're successful & functioning on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Your mind overthinks & your body is tense. From past trauma or current stress, part of you feels broken, not enough, unworthy, or unlovable. You already know this shame, but aren't aware of other parts of you. Those that know how to rest, relax, self-care, balance emotions, & love yourself. You hope you can befriend your own mind, body, & spirit as allies instead of enemies.

My trauma-informed approach draws from IFS, Polyvagal Theory, and somatic therapy and goes far beyond symptom management.
By the time I was 24, I had been diagnosed with OCD, PTSD, depression, anxiety disorder & panic disorder. I intimately know the affliction of mental health struggles. After years of lived personal experience with trauma & a myriad of diagnoses; a two decades long healing journey involving seeing over 50 different practitioners and tens of thousands of dollars; countless hours of training; and 2 master's degrees, I have honed an approach to therapy that weaves ancient wisdom, contemporary neuroscience, and compassionate inquiry into a tapestry of healing. And unlike most therapists, I only treat what I have personally experienced.

My orientation is grounded in a body-based (somatic) and mindfulness-centered approach.
I believe that the therapeutic process is about co-creating a safe enough space to explore what is happening under the surface and to develop embodied compassion for ourselves in the process. I am committed to showing up to this work with curiosity, kindness, and presence to support you to be more spacious with yourself and your internal experiences. I bring an awareness of the impacts of systems (patriarchy, racism, transphobia, etc) on our bodies and minds. I support exploration of how systemic oppression and individual traumas and wounds overlap. We work together to find compassion, curiosity, hope, and kindness.

I use somatic techniques to help people release stress and unprocessed emotions.
I am passionate about working with late teens, young adults, and adult women. I work with people who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, burnout, low self-worth, perfectionism, and body image. I specialize in treating college students, helping professionals, and those who are navigating stressful life transitions. Many of my clients starting out would describe themselves as “people pleasers” with overachieving tendencies who are ready to let go of these behaviors and are seeking balance in their lives.

One of our most important relationships is the one we have with ourselves. How we talk to ourselves, treat ourselves, and view ourselves impacts our daily living and the relationships around us. Therapy provides an opportunity to gain awareness of how we relate to ourselves and others. We begin to recognize our relational patterns and understand how these patterns were developed and are maintained. Through this self-understanding, we can begin to learn new ways of being with ourselves and others.

It's difficult when you feel alone, and you are not sure who you can talk to. Especially when you have been hurt in the past, & have felt misunderstood when you tried to communicate how you felt. You want someone who will listen to you without judging or criticizing you and who recognizes everything you have been through. You want to feel seen, heard, valued, and cared for. You're hoping that therapy will help you to build a life that you feel is worth living for. You want every day to feel a little bit easier and to not be in so much pain. I want to help you meet the goals that you have for your life and meet you where you are at.

The deepest goal of counseling is learning about yourself by teaching me about you. This idea can be daunting. You might be asking yourself, “What will I learn? Am I ready? What will this journey be like?” Sometimes starting the process is the hardest part! The beauty of counseling is that the journey doesn’t have to be taken alone. When you find a therapist that fits well, it can feel less like stumbling through a dark forest and more like forging a path of your own. No matter what brings you to therapy, feeling empowered, safe, and understood through the process can make all the difference in the world.

Life has a way of knocking us down, doesn’t it? It can be tough to create a life that feels fulfilling. We can find ourselves dissatisfied in our relationships, career, or life, and it can be difficult to shake the nagging sense that life has not turned out how we expected or hoped. Perhaps, you are struggling with a difficult boss or a job that doesn’t quite seem to fit your skill set. Or perhaps, no matter matter how hard you try you cannot seem to make progress with your relationships (whether that be your spouse, significant other, family, or friends), and it continues to be distant, disconnected, or conflicted.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
