I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in psychotherapy with adults and couples in English and Spanish. I welcome the opportunity to work with individuals dealing with important issues and transitions in their lives, who often struggle with feelings of depression and anxiety. Some of my clients seek to make sense of traumatic experiences and to deal with painful and uncomfortable emotions. Many struggle with identity and self-worth issues.

I approach therapy holistically, blending somatic and cognitive and emotional processes to address clients' lived experiences.
Balancing professional advancement and personal life often induces overwhelming stress and anxiety. However, these challenges present opportunities to explore unconscious issues, patterns, and traumas for healing. Embracing individual therapeutic processes can reshape perspectives, fostering a reconnection with forgotten or undiscovered aspects of ourselves. This journey facilitates a fuller, more authentic life.

Additionally, I incorporate somatic techniques to emphasize the mind-body-spirit connection and treat holistically.
At times, life’s challenges can take a toll on our wellbeing, stripping us of the sense of freedom and authenticity we once embodied. However, with a safe environment and the right therapeutic fit, one can begin getting to know themselves beyond the stressors again. I’m committed placing clients at the center of the therapeutic process, encouraging them to get to know the deepest parts of themselves and empowering them to take an active role in their healing. My ultimate goal is to address the core issue, as well as provide concrete tools for change, allowing clients to move past feeling stuck and into a life of alignment.

My work is informed by a gentle, resiliency-based model called Somatic Experiencing®, though I utilize many other evidence-based methods.
Difficult life experiences, whether they happen once or are ongoing, can leave us feeling isolated and disconnected, both from others, and from ourselves. It can be hard to find pleasure in relationships, hobbies, families, or careers, or to even simply just "be" as we are. I view therapy first and foremost as a way to reconnect and be curious about ourselves; to find a place of safety, connectedness, and support from which we can begin to explore who we are, how we came to be, and where we want to go. As sessions progress, I aim to help you find resilience, movement, ease, stillness, or freedom, wherever you may need it.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
