My approach to therapy is patient-centered, but incorporates evidence-based techniques from different types of psychotherapies including acceptance and commitment-based therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT).
When your body is in distress, your mind and mood suffer. Whether you want to address your weight, pain, disordered eating, stress, living with a chronic disease, recovering from an illness, or adjusting to a new medical condition, I can help. I also support care partners of those with chronic illness. As a board-certified rehabilitation psychologist, I emphasize a holistic approach to well-being and support people in leading a values-filled life that recognizes personal strengths, reduces shame and promotes self-compassion, encourages collaboration, and meets you where you are non-judgmentally.

A great deal of my work is partnering with individuals who are experiencing a lack of purpose or direction in their life. This could be related to historical wounds that seem to continually resurface, a sense of feeling stuck or trapped in behavior or relationships that leave you unfulfilled, or feeling a lack of direction and focused energy. Experiencing personal agency to achieve what you want, how you want and knowing you have the capacity to achieve this, is what I foster in a therapeutic relationship. It is my personal belief that there are no limits to what is possible.

My approach to counseling is to create a safe space for growth and healing. I believe that growth and healing happen when people recognize that they have a circle of care (including clinicians) that show them empathy and support, that they can rely on and recognize that they have their best interests in mind. My therapeutic techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy to create an atmosphere where the client recognizes that they are in control of their therapeutic experience.

Clients with a strong desire to fix their relationships in the most profound ways fit well with my practice .This is true even if you don’t know what is wrong or your partner disagrees about what the problem is. The change is not just communication patterns but also underlying intense emotional distress or explosive patterns of expression. We address complaints such as lack of sex or affection or emotional withdrawal. We stop couples from divorce and fix communication problems by training partners how to best be supportive and to understand underlying psychological messages unwittingly communicated between partners.

My overall goal as a psychologist is to help individuals develop skills and understanding to improve the quality of their life. Solution Focused Brief (SFBT) Therapists
How does solution-focused therapy work?
The treatment works by helping a client notice which behaviors and thoughts have positive results on their lives and building a plan around how to maximise these strengths. Practitioners of solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) believe that individuals already have the experience, wisdom, and resilience to create change in their lives, but may need a guide to help them realise which changes to make and how to make them.
Is solution-focused brief therapy evidence-based?
Yes. Solution-focused brief therapy has been extensively studied, and researchers find strong evidence that it’s an effective treatment for many behavioral and psychological concerns. This may be due to the uplifting nature and practicality of the treatment, which allows patients to employ strategies to reach their goals that are incremental and achievable.
How long does solution-focused brief therapy last?
Solution-focused brief therapy, as the name implies, is brief. The timeline may vary from person to person, given the challenges they face and their situation in life, but treatment is typically complete within four to eight sessions. This therapy type is a pragmatic one: it’s concerned more with “how” problems can be addressed and improved than getting to the root of “why” they exist in the first place.
Is solution-focused brief therapy a type of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Solution-focused brief therapy is related to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)in that both are pragmatic approaches that deal less with gaining a full understanding of the cause of a mental health problem and more with creating plans for how to cope with these problems and improve an individual’s day-to-day life. They are distinct, however, in that SFBT emphasises building on strengths and resources, while CBT focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviors.
