I specialize in adjustment issues, sleep disorders including insomnia (using CBT-i), pain management, adjustment to chronic illness, PTSD, stress management, relationship issues, and substance abuse.
My practice centers around providing clients with the skills that they need to thrive in the face of stressful situations. Prior to entering private practice, I worked as a clinical psychologist on the spinal cord injury unit at TIRR. These individuals would have never otherwise sought mental health care but were faced with one of the most stressful and challenging experiences of their lives. My role was to help these individuals to effectively cope with serious, adverse medical events and to live happy, fulfilling lives. Likewise, in my private practice, I strive to help clients successfully navigate complex situations.

Together, we'll create a tailored plan to optimize mental health, physical fitness, and restorative sleep.
Frequently, metabolic disorders and mental health challenges coexist, exacerbating each other's effects. As one aspect worsens, it can adversely affect the other. Rectifying metabolic disorders can alleviate mental health issues, and vice versa, yet adopting essential lifestyle adjustments such as dietary changes and behavioral modifications can prove challenging amidst intense emotional stress and chronic symptoms. By seamlessly combining holistic insight and conventional medical precision, integrative medicine offers an array of tools tailored to tackle intricate symptom clusters, fostering enduring well-being and health.

Chronic insomnia is a common issue, with many people struggling with their sleep for years. Symptoms consist of trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early, resulting in fatigue or sleepiness during the day. Perhaps you have tried other approaches, such as medications, but are not getting the results you need. Fortunately there is drug-free approach to treating insomnia that is brief, highly effective and enduring, and aims to resolve the underlying issues that maintain chronic insomnia.

I have specialized training in perinatal mental health concerns, trauma, insomnia, and parenting support.
There's Instagram motherhood... and then there's reality. When people ask how you're doing, do you choke back the pain and force a smile? Pretend like everything is great when it's not? Maybe you're actually feeling depressed, anxious, or irritable. Or you're having scary and intrusive thoughts. Maybe you've had a traumatic birth, are having difficulty adjusting to parenthood or bonding with your baby, or are experiencing loss and grief. If you feel alone and unsupported in navigating the challenges of pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting, then I want you to know it doesn't have to be that way! With help, this will get better.

Were you abused, neglected, and traumatized? Were you raised by a tiger mom? Did you raise yourself and everyone else? Do you feel frozen, numb, and disconnected from your body? Do you feel like there's something wrong with you? Do you have a need to be perfect? Do you feel anxious even during downtime? Are you always running and doing and still feel it's not enough? Is food your only friend? Yet, on the outside, you look like the most put-together person. If only people knew what was on the inside.

CaLm DoWn: Has anyone ever told you this before? I know, it really gets under my skin, too. Do I really need therapy? What's the point of sitting on a couch and talking with a stranger about my problems? I'm way too busy to be speaking with this guy for an hour anyway - - All of us have difficult moments in our lives that lead us to seek out therapy. Sadness can feel like it will never end. Anger is felt in our head, but we may feel judged by others for expressing it. If only there was a button we could press that would make us feel happiness. Though that magic button may not exist, we can work to create a new path together.

There are many reasons people come to therapy. We all have an innate need to belong, be supported, and understood. I place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and provide a safe space for clients to move forward. This emotional space for clients allows them to examine their personal experiences in a confidential and nurturing environment. While building a unique relationship clients can explore their personal feelings and emotions, habits, insecurities, beliefs and perceptions with curiosity rather than judgment and ultimately become the best version of themselves.

Drawing on a desire to help people overcome obstacles in their personal relationships, my professional work involves counseling individuals and families in order to achieve conflict resolution and better communication. As a neutral third party, I am better able to identify the challenges my patients face and facilitate positive change. Working with families, it is essential to foster a high level of trust between the therapist and family members. Mutual respect and open communication are essential to the therapeutic process. Engaging patients at their level, I help people find the change that they desire and the strength within themselves to achieve that change.

I believe that life is a journey and that sometimes on that journey, we get lost and confused or we come up against obstacles that we have trouble getting around or we get entangled in traps and need help to get free. We can also have things happen to us that are difficult if not almost impossible to deal with alone. You may need someone to who can help you find your way or help you get around the obstacles or be released from the trap that has entangled you. Someone who has personal experience with the issues you are facing and can help you find your way back to a meaningful, fulfilling and productive life.

Are you feeling like life could be more fulfilling, but fear, worry, and sadness seem to be holding you back? You've been on a journey, trying to find peace and happiness independently, and you've carried the weight of your emotions in silence for far too long. You're an empathetic person, deeply connected to your relationships, but sometimes, the emotional toll can feel overwhelming. You've considered seeking professional help, but doubts have held you back. Will your therapist truly understand your unique experiences, your culture, your background, and your upbringing?

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
