At one point or another, we all experience stress. Often we are able to manage stress effectively and grow through our struggles. Unfortunately, some circumstances such as major life transitions, relationship problems, memories of painful situations from the past, or other major stressors, can overwhelm our ability to cope. When this occurs, people may experience symptoms such as sleep difficulty, changes in daily behaviors, low motivation, tension or irritability. In difficult times, speaking to a compassionate professional can help struggling individuals find hope, learn new skills , and improve their quality of life.

I partner with individuals who are dealing with issues related to mood or emotions, sleep, chronic pain, trauma, or stress. Understanding that: 1. our minds and bodies are inextricably intertwined (shout out to our incredible Nervous System!), and, 2. there is often an overlap between mood, sleep, trauma, chronic pain, or stress... when we work on one area, it also has benefits in other areas! We leverage the power of these interconnections to help you figure out and move in the direction of what's really important to you in your life.

I specialize in treating chronic pain using Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, and EMDR for trauma.
Living with chronic pain can take over your life. You may have tried everything: every medication, every gadget and supplement, had every kind of test, and you've been to every kind of medical professional, but you still haven't found the answers you need. Based on recent neuroscience breakthroughs, there is a clinically-proven therapy to help with chronic pain called Pain Reprocessing Therapy, which is a system of psychological techniques that retrains the brain to interpret and respond accurately to signals from the body, breaking the cycle of chronic pain.

*EVENING Appointments * Have you ever wondered what a psychologist does? You’re not alone! Broadly, psychologists help individuals improve emotional, physical, and social functioning. A psychologist might help a client with 1) depression, anxiety, anger, or insomnia 2) a chronic mental or physical condition negatively impacting functioning, or 3) managing acute stress/adjustment related to divorce, new job, retirement, or the death of a loved one. Support, psychoeducation, a fresh perspective, and improved coping skills can help you better manage and overcome factors interfering with your quality of life.

As such, I offer empowerment-focused, skills-based therapy to motivated teens & adults facing anxiety in all its forms, insomnia, OCD, phobias, panic attacks, body-picking & pulling, depression, PTSD & other traumas.
You're unsettled, overwhelmed, burned out. Worst-case scenarios and defeating thoughts stop you from finding peace, and it seems like panic is becoming the norm. You avoid, distract, or argue with yourself to get some quiet, only for the process to start right back up, or worsen. You wonder, "Why can't I stop...(insert thoughts/emotions)? How come...(insert standard solution) isn't working? What's WRONG with me?!" You want to be the calm, capable, and in-control person you envision, you're just not sure where to start. But, healing IS possible and it's nearer than it seems. You've already taken the first step by considering therapy!

As a certified EMDR and complex trauma therapist, I help adults, couples, and adolescents address the core of their issues to resolve high-stress symptoms including anger, insomnia, depression, anxiety, grief, intrusive memories, substance misuse, suicidal thoughts, and relationship distress.
Is stress, anxiety, anger, depression, or substance misuse impacting your daily life and affecting your relationships? Therapy should be a proactive process that empowers you to experience results instead of just talking about it over and over again. I specialize in helping you take back control by addressing high-performance stress & environments, burnout, and traumatic events that disrupt your life. Many of my clients lead during emergencies and never thought that they’d be looking for help themselves including military service members, veterans, first responders, medical professionals, and their family members.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
