Some of the main issues for which individuals typically seek psychotherapy include, 1) Why are my relationships so troubled?, 2) Why have I been unhappy for so long?, 3) Why do I repeat the same problems over and over again?, 4) Is my past haunting me?, 5) How can I regain my self-respect and dignity?, 6) What is causing my symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or insomnia?, and 7) Do I need medication? In addition to these important issues, I would also ask, "Is there anything more important in your life than your psychological well-being?"

I have experience with panic attacks, trauma with PTSD, Dissociative Disorders, as well as more common mental health issues of mood swings, attention deficit, sleep issues, anxiety and fears.
The hardest part of life is living a full and enjoyable life, especially when there is heartache, emotional or physical pain, anxiety and fears, and losses that were unexpected. I can help you make sense out of this life and find the strength and hope to manage changes to improve how you live, how you feel, and how you feel about how you are living when you can't change your life or your circumstances. I can help you reduce the panic of anxiety, the intensity of traumatic fears, the reactivity to emotional circumstances, and reduce the grief of all sorts of losses experienced or anticipated.

Life presents challenges, and one can get stuck, but growth is in sight. While understanding can lead to change and peace of mind, there are times when you could use a little help gaining a clear perspective. That's where therapy comes in. It's a powerful tool that can provide the direction and support you need to manage stress, loneliness, anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms or just to adjust to life's changes.

I am dedicated to working with clients grappling with anxiety, depression, trauma, women's issues and LGBTQIA concerns. My shared vocations of psychotherapist and yoga therapist/teacher enable me to take a broad view of healing. As such, I am dedicated to fostering opportunities of holistic wellness by offering evidence-based psychotherapy; and when traditional psychotherapeutic treatment is not sufficient, the embodiment of yoga may be an attractive adjunctive strategy.

I am someone you may consult regarding dissatisfaction you may feel in your life regarding yourself, your roles and performance, your social and family relationships, your partner/spouse, your work. If you're looking to get "unstuck" and moving in a direction that helps you feel better, then I can be that consultant for you. I will not just sit and nod, nor will I simply reflectively listen; I work to offer solutions, insights, and pathways to feeling better and functioning to fuller capacity, with empathy and insight.

Maybe you struggle with trusting people and opening up to others. You seem to be attracted to the same type of men, and your relationships end up being toxic and unhealthy. You want to stop and do things differently but you don’t know how. Maybe you keep on trying to forget about something that happened to you, or perhaps you’re always feeling on edge or jumpy. You may want to stop people pleasing and apologizing so much, and stop being so hard on yourself. Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you just want to feel normal again and feel like everyone else. You want to feel confident and decisive, and feel happy and light.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
