As a Psychologist for the past 19 years, I've worked with adults age 18+ on a variety of concerns, from coping with stress, improving sleep and relationships, to life transitions, mood and anxiety disorders.
Do you want to change something about your life but don't know how? Whether you want to improve your mood, reduce worries/anxious thoughts, change an unwanted behavior, or better manage a tough relationship, individual (one-on-one) counseling can be a very effective tool to help you. My job is to help you identify realistic, concrete steps you can take to make these changes. A client who works with me can expect to identify goal(s) for your counseling, and then together, we'll create a plan for working toward your goals.

Our goal has always been to help clients find and maintain emotional balance. Our clients are interested in and intrigued by the brain. They are ready to address brain issues which are foundational for psychological issues. Our clients may want to soar in their respective fields, or they may want to stop performing compulsive rituals. Our clients may be experiencing flashbacks, or they may have difficulty in school. They may desire better relationships, better memories, better sleep, better moods. They may be 6 or 86. Most certainly, they want therapy to be effective and to be an active participant in the process.

While no approach is effective for everyone, I aim to collaborate with you about your experiences and preferences, together with what research suggests may be most effective. Over 20 years of experience has shown me that this combination of compassionate individualized understanding with evidence-based strategies works for many clients. Now offering Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) in addition to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My experience as a health and wellness coach may also assist you in influencing lifestyle factors that impact your health.

I specialize in helping those with anxiety, depression, & relationship issues. Whether it is a relational, work, school, or family issue, talking about it with someone often aids in clarity and change. I want to help those individuals/families who are struggling to make sense of the chaos, look for understanding insight, and make those changes that will help them to start feeling more hopeful and excited about life again.

I believe that human beings have an inherent longing and need for wholeness and balance, which is our natural state of being. However, we sometimes encounter damaging or traumatic events or long term stress that interrupt this natural state. When we are imbalanced, we develop psychological and/or physical symptoms, and we begin to use ineffective coping mechanisms. The good news is that with the right tools, these struggles can be used as a path back to the wholeness we seek. Having worked with clients for over twenty years, I know firsthand the power of using our difficulties to point the way towards healing.

Seeking therapy is a hopeful and courageous act. While suffering is a uniquely individual experience, making the transition to a healthy and balanced life is an opportunity to discover a true and more authentic self. My approach to psychotherapy is grounded in a deep respect for the strength and resilience of the human spirit. If you are a young person struggling at home or at school or a couple looking for clarity, resolution and healing or someone that feels like they just don't fit in, you do not have to continue alone.

My ideal client would be someone who is geared towards helping themselves and needing guidance on how to do so. Someone who has a grasp on the importance of the client putting in the work to truly help heal themselves but needing assistance ensuring they are doing things in a healthy and emotionally intelligent fashion. Talk therapy is very important for clients who even just want to come and vent, which I believe helps the mind unclutter.

I appreciate someone with an open heart and a willingness to explore their inner self. I value individuals who are ready to engage and connect in meaningful conversations. I know it can be hard to take the first step for help, and look for someone who is committed to their own growth and willing to collaborate in their goals. Trust, honesty, and a desire to change create a supportive connecting environment where healing and transformation can take place.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
