I am flexible to meet your needs in person and remotely. Feeling stressed, lost, and overwhelmed are common ways people experience and cope with difficulties. Sometimes we can all feel that there is nowhere to turn for support. Thankfully, finding great encouragement and understanding can quickly put us on a healthier path. I feel very fulfilled while helping others during a struggling time. I myself have learned that struggles can be temperary, and that there are ways to cope while extreme stress situations are underway. Gaining coping skills and improving ones mindset and approach can create a better outcome for ourselves

Do you find yourself feeling like you are never enough and unworthy no matter what you do? Are you having difficulty saying “no” to others and pretending to be okay when you're not? Or perhaps you feel guilty or shameful when there is no reason to be? Past trauma can leave us feeling shameful, broken, unloved, and disconnected from our authentic selves. You feel you have to be perfect all the time with your relationships, work, and appearance. You want to appear like your life is great, but deep down, you are struggling to make it through the day most of the time, lacking motivation, confidence, and trust in yourself.

Hello! My name is Dallas Carey. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a focus on helping others design their own consciousness. I work holistically. This means when someone comes to me, I help them target important life domains (e.g., nutrition, sleep, relationships, stress, thinking style, & daily structure.) For example, I am interested in how you think and feel about yourself (and your future self) & others, as well as how daily lifestyle choices facilitate your well-being. You’ll often catch me saying “Let’s discover the thought between the thoughts" or "that situation didn't make you depressed; your perception did."

I have been practicing as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in South Florida since 2010. Clients who have had negative experiences with therapy in the past have described me as “the therapist for people who think they hate therapy.” I have a laid-back style and I work collaboratively with my clients to ensure they are getting what they need out of therapy. My therapeutic approach focuses on the mind-body connection. I teach clients to evaluate how mood can be affected by food, sleep habits and physical movement, as well as genetics, thought processes, and trauma.

My ideal client is ready and motivated for a new way of living. They may be struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, PTSD, food-related issues, work stress, grief, lack of purpose, burn out, or overall unhappiness without knowing why. My clients want to feel better, happier, and more balanced. They are tired of struggling and ready to find a fresh path. My clients want to feel heard and seen, exactly as they are, without judgment. My clients long for inner-peace and to feel joy inside, sometimes for the first time ever or in a very long time.

You might feel unable to experience joy or persistent anxiety, fear, and anger. Stuck in the past, you can’t see a bright future. You might be straddling two cultures—the one you left behind and the one you are trying to embrace. Continued stress, hardship, or trauma could take a toll on your health, resulting in sleep issues, concentration problems, and chronic illnesses. Psychotherapy promotes wellness to improve mental and physical health. Building resilience is essential to restore self-agency. It would be a pleasure to take you on a journey to self-actualization!

If you are having a difficult time adjusting to a life change you weren't expecting; maybe an injury that has resulted in chronic pain and needing to modify the way you used to do things, a relationship change, adjusting to parenthood, or dealing with the effects of a pandemic, and would just like to feel "balanced," find joy in life again, sleep peacefully, and use healthy coping skills to maintain normal daily function, then consider allowing me to work with you to figure out how to work through and overcome some of your challenges and support a transition to a more positive mindset.

Has your spark gone out? Lots of things can make it dim or go out. Lets work together to get your spark burning again! Is it anxiety or a heart attack? You can’t tell. The heart palpitations, shallow breathing, and foggy head scare you. You feel out of control. The racing thoughts are driving you crazy. All you can think of is worst case scenario. You feel paralyzed. Can’t sleep. Can’t function. Even when there’s nothing to be anxious about, you are anxious about getting anxious. Anxiety controls you. You’ve tried to stop it. That did not work. It just keeps getting worse. HELP! Can you ever get a break?

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
