My name is Cassie. My pronouns are she/her. As a fat, neurodivergent, queer person, I know first hand how discrimination and social “norms” can impact your mental and physical health. I want to be your ally and advocate wherever you feel you are being held back. I look at my role as being one part of your care team, but you are the leader of that team. You are the expert on YOU. There may be other providers or even family members who are part of your team too. My job is to meet you wherever you are today, and help you connect with the resources that let you move forward through this world.

Welcome! As humans, we are all on a path of healing and growing. We are born with intrinsic worth, but through painful experiences, we internalize untruths. Our work is about creating a new truth by trimming the pain that keeps you stuck in shame, toxic relational patterns, negative thoughts, unhealthy habits and loss of purpose. Collaboration is the foundation of my work. Humans are the experts in their lives, but I do have experience and training in how to help people make the changes they desire, as well as providing compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental care.

I believe the ability to heal already exists in you, waiting to be uncovered from beneath past protective patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe you're successful & functioning on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Your mind overthinks & your body is tense. From past trauma or current stress, part of you feels broken, not enough, unworthy, or unlovable. You already know this shame, but aren't aware of other parts of you. Those that know how to rest, relax, self-care, balance emotions, & love yourself. You hope you can befriend your own mind, body, & spirit as allies instead of enemies.

Hi! I am happy that you're here. Self improvement is hard work but you don’t have to do it alone. If you're feeling bothered or hopeless by things that you have no control over and are struggling with acceptance, or if you’re feeling depressed or anxious, I am here to help. Dealing with any degree of mental health struggle causes trauma to our brains and bodies. That is why I always encourage and model self compassion and understanding, and why I encourage my clients to challenge their core beliefs if they are hard on themselves. We are our own worst critics as the saying goes, but it doesn’t have to be.

Even though transitions are a part of all of our lives, they sometimes stir up old pain or are just too overwhelming to navigate without some help. You deserve the time and support to work through it and counseling can provide that for you. I believe in a person centered, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral and strength based counseling approach. I have over 17 years of experience using these approaches working with individuals of all ages dealing with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship issues, chronic illnesses and transitions at all stages of life.

Traditional therapy models do not always resonate with people nowadays. Mindfulness training, on the other hand, if taught and utilized correctly, is just as effective today as it was thousands of years ago. Controlled breathing can calm us during a busy day at the office. Non judgmental awareness can help us be more patient with ourselves and our families. Meditative techniques such as one-pointedness can improve our focus and clarity. Despite several misconceptions, mindfulness is a practice that we can ALL readily access. I would be happy to help you get started. Schedule your free consultation today at www.mindflo.net.

Maybe you've been diagnosed with a long term illness or have had symptoms for years and at times you don’t recognize yourself anymore. You know these health struggles are somehow behind your depressed and anxious feelings, and you feel alone…like no one understands. Right now, you may have more questions than answers, but one thing you know for sure is that you’d do anything to get your life back. You grieve for the person you used to be and find it hard to imagine yourself living a worthwhile life with this illness trying to drag you down every chance it gets. (Due to demand, I ONLY accept clients with chronic illness concerns)

I believe all people generally have the resources to help themselves, yet sometimes simply need a safe, trustworthy professional to help work through issues, identify goals, make healthy decisions and take steps necessary to live life more fully. I use an integrative approach that draws largely from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solutions-focused and cognitive behavioral theories. I recognize and respect the fact that individuals have widely varying perspectives and needs. Lastly, I am fully virtual and offer either phone or video sessions.

Are you having trouble in your relationship? Increasing arguments, lost trust, resentment, distance and problems with intimacy are some of the issues that make having a happy relationship seem impossible. Maybe you are not sure if your relationship can ever be happy and healthy again or if it will even survive. I believe there is hope for struggling couples to become stronger, healthier and happier by getting clear about why they are where they are and where they want to be -- individually and as a couple -- and what it will take to get there.

Therapy is about uncovering desire. It is an adventure in moving past, dissolving or reducing painful problems and embracing life, love and relationships. It is more than words; it is experiencing oneself in ways that are meaningful, whatever that looks like for each person. I work with individuals and couples (gay, straight, poly, trans), who want more from their lives. I believe there is always hope and possibilities and I passionately work with people to discover opportunities for more of what they want in life.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
