I created The Relationship Model of Addiction, a new paradigm for understanding addiction and recovery. Addiction is viewed as a relationship (not a disease), with a means of relief of pain from unmet emotional needs. Recovery is seen as a three-stage transitional journey out of unhealthy relationships and into healthy ones: Stage I – Breaking-up; Stage II – Developing the Relationship with Self; Stage III – Creating Emotionally Nourishing Relationships.The over-arching theme in all of the work I do is to empower the transformation of relationships by developing the relationship with Self.

I believe therapy is a space for people to be witnessed, understood, and gently challenged to take action on what they value most. I use a collaborative, strengths-based approach to help clients identify the resilience and knowledge that has already been working for them, as well as to target areas where they’ve been struggling.

I am especially passionate about treating eating disorders. I see clients of varying age groups with a particular focus on adolescents, transitional age youth and young adults. Changing one's behaviors and psychological states is a process and I aim to meet clients where they are at in terms of their readiness for change. In addition to specific graduate training and many years working at Stanford Health's inpatient eating disorder unit, I also have lived experience dealing with disordered eating, and find that my own recovery journey benefits clients and serves as a reminder that recovery is attainable.

These traumas have negatively impacted our lives and how we see ourselves. We are all constantly in a never-ending journey of self-discovery. Our life experiences leave us with several unanswered questions. When will things get better? What does true healing look like? What does success really mean?
